My Dd has a conditional offer for six form college . The course is popular and over subscribed . She is taking her gcse and expected to get top grades .

This week she got into a fight and is isolated for 5 days . This is her third fight . Last fight was two years ago . Always over but not with the same boy

School have been very supportive knowing she works hard and has a great attitude to learning .

Will this exclusion affect her six form chances ? Should we start looking at apprenticeships?

We thought the worst was behind us

Any advice mumsnetters ?

I think but am not certain that state schools can't take behaviour or attendance into account wrt 6th form places unless there have been exclusions.

I am tagging the very helpful @prh47bridge who will know all the ins and outs.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention @TeenDivided

School sixth forms cannot take behaviour or attendance into account in determining admissions, and they can only take exclusions into account if the pupil has been permanently excluded from two or more schools and it is less than two years since the last permanent exclusion. However, these rules do not apply to sixth form colleges. It is therefore up to the college in question whether they take these things into account.

The fact the current school is supportive is a positive sign. Also, if the offer is withdrawn, the college may have an appeal process that will allow you to challenge the decision.

In this situation, I would continue on the basis that the offer will stand but have a backup plan just in case.

If she has already been offered a place then her reference will already have been done. I would ask the school if they are intending to inform the Sixth Form College of the suspension.
