Teen boy height

Just looking for information or stories on teen boys growing after age 16.

Ds is 16 and 5ft 9, which is quite a bit shorter than his dad, who is over 6ft.

He had a growth spurt early and has facial hair now. I'm starting to think he's done growing, but wondered if anyone has experience of another growth spurt after this age and with having facial hair?

Thanks

Following to see what the answers are.

My ds is 13 and 6ft 1 with size 11 feet and I'm hoping he's finished growing! His dad is 6ft. Ds has always been tall for his age, but he says he's not the tallest amongst his peers. When do they stop!?

You could try putting his statistics into a height predictor. It was quite accurate for my sons and might give you an idea about whether he’s likely to grow more. Some boys do but I think mine only grew about half an inch or so after 16.

Thank you. We predicted he would be tall and he shot up 12, but then not much more after that.

DH was 5ft 8 ish at 16 and then shot up to 6ft5 by the time he was 19. His dad is 5ft 10.

Thank you. Had his growth slowed before that and did he have facial hair?
I've read different things about whether facial signifies the end of puberty / growth and others saying height can still increase after this 🤷‍♀️

My boys are 16 and nearly 18 and still growing. Both have had sime facial hair for a while. Ds1 has grown I would say a couple of inches between 16 and 18 (he is just short of 6'2) but had his growth spurt at 15. Ds2 is 6' but still edging up slowlgly, so to answer your question, he could still grow at least a couple of inches.

It's entirely possible he will continue to grow. I am female and grew until I was 18 (grew an inch between 16 and 18) which is very rare. My mum was the same.

Are you concerned he has stopped growing?

I loved the red book I got for each child and filled it all in. The height predictor when the child was 2 put both my DS and DD at 5 ft 8ins. I'm 5ft 3 inches and DH is 6ft 2in.
My DD sailed past her older brother at age 3 and is 5ft 8in now and her brother never had the big growth spurt and is perhaps a tiny bit shorter than his sister.
The important thing is that in both cases their feet reach the ground.

My son is 12, is approx 5'7- 5'8 has pretty much a full on moustache. He seems to be growing an inch ish every 3 months (give or take). I am 5'1 and his dad is 5'7 ish. My biological father is 6'5.5 so I am guessing he will be quite tall once he has finished growing.

I think he is unlikely to be much taller than 5ft 11 but may have stopped. Whatever you do don't make it into a thing. Don't mention it or talk about it around him.
Big up other things like how sporty he is or good at chess or kind to dogs or some other shite but not his height.
we have a very tall DD and try not to make it a thing other than a positive. She is likely to be other 6 foot (had size 9.5 feet aged 12 and still growing). We try not to make it the thing about her.

They can still grow, genetics play a big part but there are environmental factors such as nutrition.

The other biggie is growth hormone is released while you sleep. My DS has always loved his sleep and when a teen I just left him asleep none of this being forced up in the morning. I didn’t know this at the time but the lad can easily sleep for 10 hours no problem. I am 5ft 4.5 and DH is 6ft 1, my entire family are short except DS who is 6ft 5.

My mate is 5ft 5, his Dad is 6ft 1 and his Mum is 5ft. He is a fully grown adult and is mighty peeved he takes after his Mums side.

I had no idea about the sleep link! I never wake my DD14 early at weekends because I figure she needs it. She often does 10 or 11 hours and she’s nearly 5ft 9! I’m 5ft 8 and her dad is 5ft 11 so she was always predisposed to being tall but now I’m thinking it’s the sleep too!

This is almost exactly my brother although he went to 6'7" (& dad was 5'11")

Boys tend to grow until 18-19. Girls usually stop growing 2-3 years after start of periods.

Thank you all.

He would be happy with 5ft 11 tbh. I definitely haven't said anything about this to him and won't be making it an issue 😌

I do feel he may have stoped growing due to the facial hair, which is now quite a bit! I am just unsure if this is a definite indicator that growth has stopped or if it could still continue. Any ideas?!!
