Does anyone have experience of using period swimsuits? My daughter is attending a birthday that will involve swimming but it is on the day her period is likely to start. Wearing a wetsuit might be an option too. Wwyd?

My just turned 13 year old has WUKA bikini bottoms, she wears them under her normal swimsuit for swimming in the UK and on holiday with a rash vest. They are fantasic we've had no issues.

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but how does period swimwear work? Are they absorbent? Wouldn't they just soak up the pool water?

Yes they have a very absorbant gusset and they do absorb the pool water but they're thick enough that it takes a while for the blood to seep through them.
Apparently some people's flow slows down or stops in water (I've never experienced this) so I think the idea is that they're just to cover the walk to and from the pool. I wish I'd known that before I bought them and went swimming in them 😂
