Babysitting

My DD is turning 14 and is thinking about babysitting for neighbours kids on weekend evenings. Probably only primary school age and up. Is she too young still? She’s super reliable. And she wouldn’t need to travel as our neighbours are in the same block of flats. Do other teens do this ok?

Sounds like a nice thing!

Take this with a grain of salt, as I am not in the UK.
My 15 year old DD took a babysitting course and has babysat occasionally for two families. It's been very good for her - she likes kids, it's good for her self-esteem to do something that isn't about school or sports, and she likes earning her own money.
She is not an easy teen in many respects, but she's responsible and a good babysitter. She takes public transport and her babysitting happens during daytime/early evening.

primary school age and up. so potentially a 13 year old babysitting an 11 year old?!

no op. too young in my opinion

notjustthe · 25/01/2024 11:02

i wouldn’t want to leave my 13 alone at night

let alone in some charge of younger children!!

Well she would be 14. And the kids would be around 6/8 years old. But maybe she’s too young, was interested in others opinions..

Way to young

fulgrate · 25/01/2024 20:56

Have the neighbours asked?

Too young. If something serious were to happen you and the other parents would be in serious trouble. ..

Even if in the same block as flats, would feel uncomfortable with her coming home by herself perhaps late evenings..

Do you even know these people? Observed them interacting with one another and their children? Why do they require a babysitter often??
Did they ask her and ask you??

Children shouldn't be babysitting children...or perhaps at all...
