Does your teen have phone I room at night during holidays? I have a boy 15, during term time phone is off on charge in hallway by 9.30pm.

I have relaxed this now in holidays but am not happy about how late he is staying up on it.

Last night I woke at midnight and he was still on it, I told him to come and put it in my room
I've woke up and it's not here!

I need to set some rules for holidays but it's hard to manage as I go to bed before him..

How do others deal with this? Any advice appreciated! Thanks 😊

No rules in the holidays here - up late, then asleep until 11am. I think it’s what teens do.

I want to give them a bit of freedom to control their own day, I guess.

Phone goes on charge, downstairs, on school nights though!

Stick to term time rules in holidays until post GCSEs.

I have three teens. In term time the 14yo leaves his downstairs overnight but the older two have theirs in their rooms. In the holidays the 14yo can have his in his room. I'm ok with that as long as they are all doing other stuff in the daytime - being physically active, taking part in family things, doing their homework etc. If I felt it was impacting their behaviour then I would be stricter.

We've sort of let our DS(16) figure it out himself. He got his phone at 11 and up until he was 13 it got charged in the kitchen. At 13 we let him figure out what happens if he stays up late on his phone, he's extremely tired. He's allowed it in his room now and we never have any issues. He goes to bed at about 11-12 on a school night and at weekends he's almost always with friends/girlfriend on Friday/Saturday nights so not really an issue. I find if you always restrict it then they are more likely to want it and so when you do give it to them they then stay up until silly o'clock on it. He's now responsible with it and it's just what works for us!!
