Driving test - how many times?

My ds has just failed his test for the 2nd time. It's becoming a very expensive business.

How many times did it take your dc?

Sorry he didn't pass, he must be really upset. Hopefully next time.

My DD passed on the 4th attempt! She is actually a really good driver but Covid and the disruption of tests resulted in the time span being huge between each test.
And she really suffered with nerves. By the third fail though I was wondering if she would ever pass particularly as DS passed first time.

How many hours of lessons has he had?

Maybe he's been put in before he's ready?

DD (studious, task-focused) passed first time after about 30h of lessons (1h a week for Sept-April).

DS (always slower to learn stuff, unfocused) passed first time but had about 50h of lessons (just shy of a year at 1h a week)

DS1 five! Although during Covid years and very stop/start with lessons.
DS2 first time.

3 times - she was very nervous!

My niece 4 times - again nerves. But when she passed she didn’t get any minors - clean driving test :)

It’s expensive & we were using her car rather than her instructors! When moving around my daughters test we went for a lunchtime on a Saturday - our test centre is between 4 schools so a Saturday meant less traffic. We also left a much bigger gap for her to get into a better head space after the second one (which was an epic fail just before alevels!) Managed to rearrange it for after exams. She was much more prepared in her head and determined to pass the final time!

DS passed on his third time. He got nervous and also passed when he used our car rather than the instructors.

DD passed first time. Took it in our car

Not my dc, but I passed 6th time. It became a vicious cycle as I built myself up more and more for each test. Got there in the end though, as I am sure your son will!!

DS passed third time, he had about 60 lessons so quite a lot, he was 17/18. Hopefully he will pass next time OP

Does he get plenty of practice between lessons? DS was on my insurance and drove me every time I had to go anywhere mainly driving DC2 around to their many activities.

Do they help to pay for Leason's and tests? I found this helped him to focus a little more than his DFs seemed ti be Wink

DD has just passed first time although was VERY close to failing due to messing up her manoeuvre. Thankfully had a very sympathetic examiner who saw that she could actually drive and that it was just nerves putting her off, she let her have a second go and she did it perfectly that time. To be honest I don’t think it’s fair that she passed for something that others would likely fail for however I am not complaining, the thought of having to wait months for another test is horrific..!

One.
But 5 theory attempts.

Floralnomad · 14/12/2023 21:46

My extremely anxious , but competent daughter passed at her 3rd attempt , on the first 2 she had one major and 1 minor fault . She passed the theory 1st time . She had about 42 hours of lessons ,started mid Jan and passed at the start of October .

Thanks for messages.

He was one of the first to start lessons over a year ago (had to spread the lessons out for various reasons, but he's also had access to our car) so really annoying that he still hasn't passed as others who started later are now driving about!
