Addicted to cannabis

Ds is 16. He has been smoking weed for nearly a year. We are beside ourselves with worry. We don’t give him any money but he has a part time job. Recently his smoking habit has got worse. Tonight he got home from his shift at a supermarket and told me he had to go and smoke a joint outside. I begged him not to but he told me it is the only way he will be able relax and sleep. I offered to sit and relax with him and watch tv instead but he just went outside. He has said he will speak to someone which is a breakthrough but all his friends smoke weed so I’m not sure how easy he will find it to stop. Anyone had a teen in similar situation? We have a local charity youth mentor service which my GP has recommended.

Is your son informed of the risks to use cannabis, especially daily?
does he understand all the risks he is taking on his health and future life?

if he does and still doesn’t want to stop, Take away his money. He is only 16.

My journey of hell with drugs started with cannabis started at the age of 13 I then progressed onto class A drugs not every teen who smokes cannabis will go down this route.whilst it's not physically addictive it can be very psychologically addictive.can you get him to speak to the GP or a self referral to a drug and alcohol agency or access counseling?

Not sure what advice I can give you, as my son is going through something similar. It's everywhere, and cheaper them alcohol. My son also says it helps him relax and sleep. He has agreed to see a MH nurse and I am looking at getting my son to join the gym. I keep reminding him about how bad weed can be without getting to too emotional, and have also took the stance that although I don't like it if he is going to do it don't do it everyday as it can cause addiction and mental health problems long term. So far that seems to be working, but we will see when he gets money again.
