my (just) 14 year old daughter shows absolutely no signs of puberty, flat as the proverbial pancake, she is very immature for her age and has only lost 8 of her big teeth (although the orthodontist says not too worry) should I worry about the puberty bit, or am I just being a worried mum. would be grateful for your comments, thanks

I didn't get my periods til I was 14, was skinny and flat chested then whoosh fully-fledged curvy girl.

(Now a blob but heigh ho)

If you are worried, a consultation with the doctor will put your mind at rest.

I didn't start my periods or get boobs till about 15YO.

Was pretty flat chested even then...

what were you like buttercup?
do daughter's normally follow their mother's?

mumblechum · 12/03/2008 10:53

I think I read somewhere that periods only start when the girl reaches a certain weight. Is your dd v. slim?

buttercupfairy · 15/03/2008 21:59

thanks everyone for your messages, perhaps I am being a little hysterical about it all, but maybe a quick visit to my very nice woman doctor will put my mind at rest, I think that I was a fairly late developer so maybe it runs in the family, she is very slim and is certainly not very heavy about 5 and a half stone or thereabouts.

Buttercup, it does sound as though it's a weight thing.

Obviously boys are different but my ds is 13.5 and average build and weighs 9stone 4lbs. If your daughter is only 5.5 st, I'm sure she'll start going through puberty when her weight increases.

Sherbert37 · 20/03/2008 11:00

I saw a tv programme and it said 7 stone was the trigger weight for puberty.
