Hi my son has just passed his test and looking for a car. I have been looking into insurance and even a basic 1l engine car is coming out around 2,000 which is almost twice the value of the car. Has anyoneone any tips. Thanks

He just needs to put in the leg work and try all sorts of different companies.
He can find out on line which cars fall in to which groups.

Car insurance has gone through the roof. Ours has gone up 50% with no changes at all from last year - and that is a couple in our 50s with decades of experience.

Look and compare on MoneySavingExpert. Also maybe see if you can get a family insurance.

Marmalade are a good first time insurance company. But premiums have sky rocketed recently. Ds is paying more with 1 year ncd than he did as a brand new driver! £2k for a 1l sounds about right in my experience.

Don't be tempted to go with Marmalade, or if you're considering it please look at the comments on their Facebook page and not Trustpilot which are good because they were made when their service was good.
It isn't any longer.

I took it out for DS with the black box and it only recorded part of the journeys he made.

I rang and let them know it was happening and the staff member confirmed if he had been involved in an accident and the journey hadn't been fully recorded, he wouldn't be covered.

I cancelled it and got him added to my insurance - £950 for 6 months.
It was the cheapest I could find.
