Just wondering if you have a ds that is or has been through puberty, when can I expect this to start.

Just a little concerned he is nearly 13 and no sign at all.

Thanks 😊

My ds started his massive growth spurt last yr at 14yrs 4 months and has grown 5 inches in 12 months. Beginning to get a shadow but voice hasn’t broken yet. He has felt behind his friends for ages but is happy now he’s grown!

My DS was at least 14 before puberty really hit.

Year 8

My son just just turned 14. When we looked back at photos of him on his 13th birthday compared to now it’s like looking at a different child.
He's grown in height - he’s still only about 5’6 though and slight, no facial hair but voice deepening and he’s covering himself up on his bottom half. He was closer to 14 but I can definitely see he’s gradually more teenager than young boy now.

Ds was start of year 9. In a year he grew lots, voice broke, physically changed face shape. The difference in the first day of school photo between last year and this year is very visibly different.

Nodeepdiving · 17/09/2023 18:24

Secondary teacher here. IME very few boys in year 8 (12-13) will have visibly started puberty. I'd say 13-14 is much more typical to start.

CharlotteFlax · 17/09/2023 18:28

13-14 has been the biggest change so far in my son. He grew a centimetre per month for a year!

DuckGooseOwl · 17/09/2023 18:29

In a somewhat similar situation to OP. Although DS is a year older. I’m somewhat clueless when it comes to male puberty and I’m a single parent. DS bas got a health problem that I’m not sure is affected by lack of puberty too

fruitypancake · 17/09/2023 18:29

My DS was 12 when started puberty.. he is now just 13 and is very much into full throws

CurlewKate · 17/09/2023 18:31

My ds had a very gradual puberty. He's very fair so it was a long time before he had much facial hair, and to be honest I didn't really notice anything much had happened until one day when he was about 13ish, I saw him dashing from the bathroom to his room naked and... got rather a shock, to put it mildly. So it's not always a big dramatic change.

CreationNat1on · 17/09/2023 18:32

I would say from 13 on you may notice changes, increasing hair on legs and underarm hair, but it REALLY ramps up from 14 to 15, growth, voice breaking, greasy skin, whiskers, attitude. They all get there.

Stephen1479 · 17/09/2023 18:38

He might have started already. Early signs of puberty can be subtle. Growth spurts, testicles getting larger, penis growth, body odour, voice cracking. Some kids are able to ejaculate before they start growing any pubic hair.

wooliemam · 17/09/2023 18:53

My son is 11; he's already started! His whole face and body shape has changed, sweaty/BO, pubic hair and getting spots. I swear he's young to start?? Unsure though..

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 17/09/2023 19:02

Thank you all, puts my mind at rest a little bit.

Without sounding like a weirdo troll (!), his penis hasn’t grown with his height if that makes sense.

I rarely see it obviously, but is definitely a little boys one rather than growing with him if that makes sense.

no body hair, no signs of anything
