DD(13) struggling with periods

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same: DD started her periods earlier this year and uses a combination of period underwear and pads. The problem we have is that she absolutely hates the sensation of blood letting down, to the extent that she’s started avoiding any activity while she’s on.

I’ve suggested trying tampons and have bought her all sorts of options, but she can’t bring herself to use them, saying it makes her feel sick just thinking about it. She did try, but couldn’t manage it.

Does anyone have any experience or advice? I’m starting to get a little concerned about her going back to school and having to do PE 😕

TIA

I think it can take some a little while to get used to. It’s a big change and she’s still adjusting. Right now I wouldn’t stress too much about pe and just encourage some gentle activity until she’s feeling more comfortable.

She will be worried about leaking and then people noticing. Doing lots of exercise or any big movements will worry her incase she feels very wet and the chance of anyone spotting it. Ask her what would made her feel more comfortable and confident, remind her it’s okay to feel like this and soon this will all be a distant memory as she will be so very used to her period and even be able to tell when it’s going to start.

That’s really helpful, thank you 🙏🏻

Even now in my mid 30s, I can feel self concious on heavy days and avoid the gym or anything involving too much standing up.

What has really helped though is the nighttime/heavy flow period pants in a shorts style. Feels so much more secure and I wish they'd been around when I was in school!
