Do your teenagers come out of their rooms? Mine does for family activities, walks (with encouragement) extra curricular activities, meal times and that's pretty much it. I'm worried but also have heard for teenagers it can be normal?

Totally normal. Don't worry

They do if they need to, but if they don't the bedroom is their default.

Main way to interact with them is to actively do something with them, they are unlikely to just 'hang around' in communal areas if they can avoid it.

My teens did hang out in the communal area as all their gaming stuff/ TV was in our living room. They never got into the habit of being in their bedrooms. Even when their friends came they all hung out there. We do have another area for us if needed.

Nope, mine doesn't come out of the pit unless she has to

Totally normal.
In fact, I'd say you are winning if they come out for "family activities"

It's one reason why it's really good to encourage them to stick with something they enjoy outside of school and home (sports team, music group / orchestra, Scouts, etc).
