Texas Chainsaw Massacre Game

DS asked me a few days ago if he coud have this game. I said no and he's hasn't spoken to me since.
My son is a bit geeky and doesn't have many friends. He has a crew of about 6 others that went to primary together then all ended up at different schools (they sometimes meet up in real life) but play on line daily. He is usually a very sweet and caring chap and we are very close.
The game Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out yesterday
Despite it being an 18 I said I'd check the reviews and if they were ok he could have it.
I am so shocked a game like this is allowed: school shootings, abuse, rape, stabbing, graphic intestine spillage.
He says all his friends have it and I'm out of order for not letting him have it
I know it's the right thing to do but am upset he feels like he does.
Does your teen have it?

I was going to say let him have it till I read it has rape in it. Are you sure ? I can’t believe that’s allowed

BigBessie · 20/08/2023 15:58

I should have said, he's 14

I've looked at reviews on line so it's hard to say without looking at it

YANBU to not let a 14 year old have an 18 rated game, but by I am so shocked a game like this is allowed do you mean you think it should be banned altogether? And where did you find that description? I've never heard anything about rape or school shootings.

I’m gutted my 14 year old sneaked around our rules and managed to download GTA. That definitely has the dark side of life in it. Not helped by the fact he’s ND so trying to have rational conversations about the content isn’t easy either. His argument of course is that everyone else is allowed it. I’m hoping he hasn’t got the game you refer to as well. I’m not sure what the answer is. They’re age rated for a reason but it’s difficult trying to police internet use with a tech savvy teen when we aren’t tech savvy parents and for those that say remove the internet he uses gaming to regulate and it’s a massive social outlet for him so it’s not as easy as that. No solutions just solidarity OP.

age ratings are pointless and arbitrary so I wouldn’t be trying to use those as the basis for an argument. Can you have a reasonable discussion with him about why those things shouldn’t be entertainment and go from there?

Bunnyannesummers · 21/08/2023 17:17

And kindly, I think you’ve been reading the wrong review. There definitely isn’t a school shooting in it, although can’t say the other bits aren’t as I haven’t played.
Wikipedia has a good summary of the game play, and I’m sure common sense media will review it soon.

There is a school shooting in it.

It's flashbacks of a school shooting throughout.

Which character is this? I haven't seen it.
