Posting here for traffic as also posted in work. My daughter has been very lucky but has studied incredibly hard and been offered two apprenticeships. Lloyds starting £33,000 for data analysis (3 years) and KPMG starting £21,000 (5 years Chartered accountant. She can not decide everyone says KPMG on paper is the one however friends say go for the money and just get qualified. Can anyone give any advice?

Data analysis and charted accountant are very different things. Does she have an idea what she’d like a career in? Data analysis can be used across lots of sectors

I recruit qualified accountants from the Big 4. It depends what their priorities are. They will have 5 years of extremely long hours and low pay doing Audit on KPMGs 5 year programme. Long hours and lots of exams whilst doing those hours. The financial rewards are there at the end and lots of opportunities will come their way once they are qualified and it's a highly respected qualification, But it's very hard.

Unfortunately I can't comment on Data analysis as a career but I am impressed with the starting salary!

Thank you for the reply. I think she is more heading towards KPMG somebody who is a 3rd year apprentice had said it is incredibly hard but that the end will be rewarding. Yes the Lloyds one was excellent financially but KPMG when she literally googled the two just came out on top with regards to moving onwards.

Thank you for your reply, she was actually set on doing Data Analytics as a degree because it seemed to be everywhere as a future proof career, so when she was offered the apprenticeship she was over the moon, however it is not an actual data analytics degree she would have but something along the lines of digital and technical solutions, which is not really what she wanted. I think she is going towards KPMG as it is more the finance side as opposed to data that she sees her self being.

Just as a rough guide, as it stands currently (though obviously this will be higher in 5 years time), a newly qualified accountant at KPMG would be earning about 54k plus benefits. Typical bonus would be around 2/3k. Have they considered the other Big 4 firms too? Worth looking at PwC and EY in my opinion too.

Thank you, she has took the KPMG apprenticeship.

Hi, my son has been offered a 5yr chartered accountant apprenticeship at KPMG working in Audit based in Canary Wharf. He is deciding between this and uni. Did your daughter start the KPMG apprenticeship and how is she getting on? Does she like it?
