ok so we have the college interview date

can anyone tell me please
what happens if the college turns him down?
what happens if his grades arn't good enough(or college don't think they will be)
do I go with him or does he go alone?

Is this sixth form college? I guess if they turn him down or the grades aren't good enough then you have to find an alternative - are there any other options where you are? If he's happy to go alone, I think that's probably best, but if there are other options and you haven't seen the place and want to you could go along (but an open day if it exists would be better imo). I doubt you'd be the only parent to go if you did.

At least this will bump it for you - as we've not reached that stage yet, this is just gut feeling rather than from any great knowledge. Perhaps someone whose been there and done that can advise?

If it's a sixth form college, rather than sixth form at a school, they generally won't turn him down turn 2shoes. If his grades aren't goo enough then they'll discuss alternative courses. I didn't go with my ds's to theirs. IIRC the interview took place at school during school-time.

In which case it's much less important for you to go (but some parents still do). What is he applying to do and is there anything else that appeals to him? If he doesn't get an offeror the required grades he will need to find a different course or a job.

Hi 2shoes. This is what happened when DD3 went for her college interview. She had two interviews one for the course she is applying for and one for learning support( she has Dyspraxia). She went in on her own to the course one but DH had to go with her for the learning support one.
She happlier for BTec performing Arts course she was told what grades she needs to get and also told her that she would have an audition for this course. They then said if she didn't get the grades they would put her on the BTEC first diploma performing arts course.
Dh said some tenagers wre on their own and others had parents with them. So it is really up to you and your Ds what you want to do.
I just remebered DD2 did not quite get the grades she needed for college but she phoned the college when she got the results and they worked something out and she was still able to do the course she wanted but had to retake her Maths GCSE at college.

I know that my dn had to re do english. but still got in.
hopefully ds will do fine but I am one of those people who like to be prepared for the worst
