DD has two ear piercings but now wants her belly button pierced & her helix. Also mentioned her nose!! Not sure where to draw the line. She’s going to be 15 next week so needs our permission for anything. Is it just her choice at this age? Interested to hear other thoughts.

DD has just turned 16, by the time she was 15 and a half she had had what yours wants. She is getting her third lobe once exams start. School are being strict about it however she has said it’s not like they can exclude her when she has exams… I have spoken to school and as long as she wears her clear sport earrings with only one pair of studs, they actually don’t mind.

But…

I also have 3 lobe, helix, tragus, daith, tongue, belly button and nipple. A few tattoos too… so yeah.. I’m probably not the best person to ask 😂.

Haha! I have two lobe piercings & one tattoo.

dD pointed out that DH has his nipple pierced!

I wouldn't have a problem with this. I'd draw the line at nipples/genitals/tongue but I'd be fine with anything else (my 15 year old has several ear piercings)

Ilovetea42 · 12/05/2023 22:58

I personally wouldn't have a massive issue with it but then I have multiple ear piercing and nose piercings. I would however have issue with it causing problems with the school. I also would want to know she was mature enough to clean and care for it herself appropriately and to understand that she'll have a hole/ scar if she doesn't like it later. I would probably ask her to hold off until school hols so it can heal while she's off and then she can remove them for the periods when she's back in school. I personally would have more issue with the belly button just because ime they always seem to get infected.

I won't allow my dd her septum pierced. She's 15. Simply because I don't want people to presume she's older than she is.

Soubriquet · 07/06/2023 16:39

I had my belly button done around that age. I had to take it out a few years later though as it started to grow out

I also had my lip pierced but I took that out a few days later. Didn’t like it.

Teenagers like piercings. Least they can be taken out and she’s not trying to do a tattoo…which I got at 18

PassMeTheRedbull · 07/06/2023 21:05

I have my belly button pierced when I was starting high school, aged 11! Don't think that would even be allowed now but I don't see any issue at all at 15

YoungWild · 07/06/2023 21:34

My DD is 12 and wants her ears done but I didn't have mine done till 16 and I think I will be the same with her. I think to avoid confutation on other piercings 4 more years won't her her

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 07/06/2023 21:37

Under 16 my dc were 1 earring in each ear only. Dd 17 opted for a fake nose ring.... Dd 16 had her belly button just after her 16th birthday.
Imo there has to be something to look forward to at 18 and not just alcohol!

reluctantbrit · 07/06/2023 22:13

Check the school's regulations.

DD's only allows one ear lobe piercing until 6th form and then only one facial piercing and "reasonable" ear piercings.

DD, 16 in July and off to 6th form, wants either a 3rd earlobe or a helix plus a nose stud. We will see.

She is good with. keeping her piercings clean and healthy.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 08/06/2023 07:01

What does her school say about piercings?

Ours weren't bothered about lobe or belly button piercings, but you'd have been made to remove a helix piercing or a nose stud.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 08/06/2023 07:13

I had many more than that at 15. Sadly I had to take them out due to employment in the past and they've healed over. Minimal scarring for most, but I was happy with them for many years. Piercings are easy to take away. Tattoos would be a much bigger thing to get rid of if she changed her mind down the line.

School says two small studs in ears & one small nose stud. Doesn’t mention belly buttons!
