Shall I stop telling dd to tidy her room this week and only do washing that's in the washing basket? Its half term next week and all her school stuff is up-to-date until Friday, so don't need to wash that. She's supposed to do it every day, but I'm sick of hearing my own voice. Maybe if I just left it, when she wants to go out next week and her clothes are dirty, she'll think on. Or am I just asking for a HUMUNGOUS row next week?

How old is she? Just tell her that if she doesn't tidy her room, then this is what you will do. I wouldn't just spring it on her without warning.

Twinkie1 · 12/02/2008 14:41

Buy her a small box of washing powder put a bow on it and tell herher clothes are her responsibility if she can't do what she is supposed to!

Shock the hell out of her!

She's 12. Like the washing powder idea!

I only wash stuff that's made it to the basket - life's too short to keep nagging. 12 is old enough to show her how to use the machine if she thinks putting clothes into a basket is too much effort...

Wisteria · 12/02/2008 14:48

do it.

MaureenMLove · 12/02/2008 14:49

She knows how to use it already, so maybe we'll have a learning curve next week!

I've stopped picking up my ds clothes (he's 12 too) and now I just wash whats in the basket and put in back in a neat pile in his room for him to put away. His room still has clothes lying around but he does put them away himself eventually!

Kbear · 12/02/2008 14:53

Do it. I think give her a warning though. Say, look you are 12 and old enough to know that if you want something washed it has to go in the basket or you can do it yourself. I don't want to nag you so I'm leaving it to you to prove that you are growing up and can think for yourself ... kinda thing. Rather than saying "tough I'm not picking up after you" a bit of reverse psycology usually works.

And the usual warning that if the room's not tidy she can't go out.

Then she thinks she is in control but you know that you are!

You better make a bed as well as notes. If its gets bad, she can go and live at Auntie Kbears house!
