PRU schools

Members of my family has been excluded and will be starting a pru school shortly.
What can we expect ? Are they likely to fall in with a bad crowd there ? Are all kids at pru schools because they've been excluded ?

Also - will they finish the rest of their schooling there ? They are 13 if that helps

The pupil referral unit (PRU) sometimes called Alternative Provision is the statutory provision provided by the local authority from the 6th day after the permanent exclusion
Not all children are there because of permanent exclusion, they can be there on short term placements from school, sometimes because they are waiting for a needs assessment prior to am EHCP being granted or not (though this tends to be primary age)
No, they shouldn't finish their schooling there, depending on what they were excluded for, but the aim is for a return to another mainstream school (obviously can't return to the one they were PEX from) normally after a term or so addressing the behaviours that caused the PEX in the first place. The PRU would also support with the reintegration into another school.
