Smelly teen

I'm not really sure of a nice way to put this but 14yo old ds is really smelly and I'm not sure why. It's not really a sweat/BO smell more of a musty/damp smell. It's been noticed by other people too.

He showers every day, used deodorant, his clothes are washed.

His room is kept in a reasonable state, windows are opened daily, bedding changed weekly, dusted and vacuumed weekly. He's recently had all new bedding including duvet and pillows.

Any advice? Could it just be his age and hormones?

Make sure he showers in the morning (my DS showers morning and night!)
Try changing shower gel or using soap.
Make sure he is using ANTIPERSPIRANT deodorant and not just deodorant or body spray.
Experiment with different antiperspirants.
Is wardrobe musty? Give it a wipe out with soapy water and keep a couple of those mini dehumidifiers in there?
Healthy eating and lots of water.
Use aftershave everyday?

My Dd washes with a bar of soap and then repeats with shower gel. Just the shower gel doesn't cut it.
Is he washing his hair properly and washing around his penis correctly?

Could he have an ear infection?

I had this smell for ages and ages without pain: couldn't work out where it was coming from-I thought it was my hair, so I started washing it every day but the smell was always there when I turned my head: it smelt damp/fusty...

I used to get occasional, mild earache after washing my hair, which then made me realise it was my ears....so I bought some Earcalm. This helped a bit with the pain and the smell but I had to use it a few times every day.

It wasn't until I had a two week course of antibiotics for a chest infection that I wasn't getting earache and the smell had gone! 😅

I think I must have had a chronic low-level ear infection xx

Oh...I should say: I didn't always have pain but the smell was always there...

I also smelt this on an ex bf once: he told me later that evening that his ear was blocked and he was having problems with it x
