Yasmin or Lymecyclin?

15 yr old DD has mild to moderate acne on face and upper back. Doctor has offered choice of Lymecyclin antibiotic or Yasmin contraceptive pill. Her acne seems worse during her period, she’s not sexually active yet. Any suggestions as to which option to choose?

Son so not really comparable for your options. Lymecycline wasn't bad but didn't really solve the issue so he ended up on Roaccutane in the end. Quite hardcore but got rid of it all.

I had lymecycline as a teenager that didn't really help, I did have roaccutane in my early 20s, for me personally, a lot of side effects for little gain. I went on the contraceptive pill and acne cleared right up! It was Microgynon so not sure if it's the same as Yasmin but the pill was the cure for me in the end. I'm now early 30s on no contraception and so far, so acne.

*so far, NO acne.

I thought they usually tried Lymecycline before moving on the the contraceptive pill. DD went on lymecycline a few years ago for her moderate acne and it really sorted it out. She had to stop taking for another reason about 6 months later and the acne has never come back.

Son not daughter. Been on antibiotics 19months whilst waiting for paediatric dermatology appt at hospital....
Lymecycline and Doxycycline and something else cycline. None have made a jot of difference.
Even when combined with benzoyl peroxide or azelaic acid. 19 months of misery to add to the 12 months we tried to deal with it ourselves before going to the doctors.

I 100% thought this was a baby name thread. Sorry OP, good luck.

@thesnailandthewhale ha ha yep I did as well 😅

Been through this with my DD, she didn't want the pill so we discounted that, she had lymecycline and topical vit a, sadly didn't work so had a 7 month course of roaccutaine it worked amazingly well and 14 months later her skin is spot free. I think we were lucky we have an excellent dermatology department and she was seen really quickly.
I hope you find the right treatment it's awful to go through as a teen.

SuperGinger · 10/02/2023 18:50

I'm have had both. Yasmin has changed my life, I never want to come off it, tricky now I'm hitting perimenopause.

SuperGinger · 10/02/2023 18:51

Yasmin just stopped the grease and spots forming

stayathomegardener · 10/02/2023 18:58

I'd just weigh up the blood clot risk with Yasmin combined with Covid infections.

sageandrosemary · 10/02/2023 19:08

I had lymecycline as a late teen and it cleared my skin almost entirely. Taking it was one of the best things I ever did.

No to Jasmin
