Period pants recommendations

Hi
Just that really
Dd 12 has her periods now and isn't really managing too well.
She has ASD which adds to the challenge , but in another thread I've discovered period pants exist !!
I'm am older mum and these never existed when I had my older girls now all grown up. They sound great.
My question is .... she's tiny .
Like really tiny.
I buy age 12 clothes for her but always have to have someone take the waist in by a couple of inches .
I looked at M&S and they don't do age it's sizes only.
Would a size 8 be suitable do you think?
She's filling out a bit elsewhere.
How many pairs do I need initially?
The options are moderate flow or light amd currently (bit gross sorry) she's quite light but keep finding knickers shoved in corners with period stains on.
I put pads in her room/ bin / baskets ect
She's pretty open to communication but when it actually happens just sort of ignores it.
She'd like to try the pants but would appreciate any advice on brand / sizes / flow ect
Thank you so much.

ModiBodi do a teenage range.

AliMonkey · 18/01/2023 22:17

DD (age 17, size 8-10) has tried a variety - Luna (Sainsburys), ModiBodi, Wukka, Hey Girls. Hey Girls have a great story (they donate a pair for every pair you buy) but we found they came up quite large. Luna are the cheapest and good for light to moderate flow. Wukka OK but she didn't feel quote so secure in them as they weren't so full, although might be OK for a 12 year old. Modibodi the best for her when she's got heavy flow but are also expensive. Also, look at whether they are machine washable on a "normal" setting to save too much hand-washing - most say cold machine wash only and when they cost £20-£25 a pair I'm reluctant to ignore that though might just try it soon.

ModiBodi do a teenage range.

.... and they are superb. DD(11) was only 10 when she got her period. I took advice from MN and bought her ModiBodi boy shorts. They have made periods so much easier for her.

Cornelious · 18/01/2023 22:30

Primark sizes fit my dd11

justasoul · 18/01/2023 22:30

DD is also in age 12 clothes and she’s a 4 in adult sizes, there’s no way an M&S 8 would fit her. I just bought her some Uniqlo from the kids range to see if she likes them.

Nix32 · 18/01/2023 22:32

Just seen that Next do some in their kid's section.

Mykittensmittens · 18/01/2023 22:35

Modibodi red (teen brand) come up small, and will do an exchange if you get them and they don’t look right (not tried on though).

my DD was a teeny slender 12 yo when she started.

All I will say is to make sure she changes them regularly - or I do notice an odour. However I’ve found washing using a capful of ‘laundry cleanser’ does neutralise. I don’t do a cold water wash or any of that faff. But you absolutely can’t tumble dry them.

SuperHandss · 18/01/2023 22:38

Modi bodi period pants are brilliant. I’ve been using them for nearly 3 years and they last so well.

slamfightbrightlight · 18/01/2023 23:08

Primark haven’t worked out well for my DD compared to the ModiBodi, though obv there’s a gulf in cost which might make up for it.

Petal7 · 18/01/2023 23:08

Modi bodi Red teenage range of pants (and swimwear) are great. My skinny 12 year old wears age 12-14 and they're fine size wise.

Primark XXS ones also fit my 12 year old. They come in packs of 3 (2 medium, 1 heavy) for 13 pounds.

I really rate them both, but obviously a huge difference in cost. Modi Bodi do sporadic sales.

Bohoboo · 18/01/2023 23:16

Modibodi definitely the best. Teen range much better quality than other brands. Their period swim wear is amazing too.

I came on to say this too. They're great and last years. No leaks. Worth the money

Trickydaley · 10/06/2023 11:09

Hello,

Can anyone help. What are the best period pants for my 10 year old. She’s only just started. I have read the reviews and can’t make my mind up between WUKA or modibodi. They are expensive so need to make sure they are right. What are the sizes like. She doesn’t like anything tight fitting but I think they will need to be snug so no leaks.

please help

Jenjen21 · 10/06/2023 12:46

Next do kids size period pants and they're really good I have age 12 for my dd

Azandme · 10/06/2023 12:51

DD11 has Primark 3 for £13. She also has their period bikini bottoms £8.

AliMonkey · 10/06/2023 15:15

It will depend on their shape and size. For DD the Modibidi are the ones that feel most secure but actually she’s never had a leak from Wuka either and I definitely prefer those as can go in a 40 wash. Since my response upthread we’ve also bought M&S ones which also wash at 40 - they are much less bulky than most other brands so feel really comfy but she doesn’t yet trust them on heaviest days just because they don’t feel like they could cope but no actual issues yet.

Note though that DD has only used since age 16 so what suits her may not suit a younger girl.

AliMonkey · 10/06/2023 15:15

I forgot to say that M&S price is really good too.

Trickydaley · 10/06/2023 15:53

Thank you

they are all sold out in the sizes I need. I’ve seen some bodyform ones too that look good but they only come in ladies sizes not ages. It’s all so confusing

almondfinger · 10/06/2023 16:19

My DD 14 uses the uniqlo period pants and is v happy with them. I soak them in Napisan before washing to get them clean. On the occasion they have slipped by into a wash without a soak they haven't been properly cleaned.
