Wondering if anyone has any tried and tested remedies for the gremlin my daughter turns into the week before her period. Hitting her sibling, screaming at us, filled with rage one minute and floods of tears the next.
we are addressing the hitting and shouting but she’s a whirlwind of emotions so punishment seems harsh when she’s been controlled by hormones.
Do I buy black market Xanax and just drop them in her brekkie? (Joke!!)

I was told years ago by a Gynaecologist to take calcium supplements and it's the only thing that helped me then.

There's a theory that antihistamines help in the second half of the cycle, ie approaching the period. Look up PMDD

Have you thought of Evening Primrose oil?

TwoPointFourCatsAndDogs · 16/01/2023 23:17

Oh bless her, and the rest of the household.
Try Agnus Castus, available in Holland & Barrat. Does she use a tracker App? There may well be other symptoms prior to the anger, such as brain fog, confusion and insecurity. There’s an extreme pms condition known as PMDD, PreMenstrual Dysphoria Disorder, which may well be worth reading up on.

Try evening primrose or starflower oil. You can open the capsules and add to food or water if they're too large. They do take a while to start working though.

Also ensure she's eating enough in the run up to her period as teens need to eat LOTS to feel mentally well. I have read that lack of animal fats can make it worse so could be an issue of she's veggie or vegan or just not getting enough meat or dairy.

I put a bar of choc on my dds pillow in a show of awareness and solidarity.
