Girlfriend

My 16 year old son has been seeing a girl for 7 months now. As she lives quite far away she probably spends 3 weekends here and 1 weekend at her house. I didn’t mind too much in the beginning but it’s starting to annoy me now.
i feel like he should have more of a social life and not just spend all his time indoors with girlfriend.
AIBU? In hindsight I probably shouldn’t have allowed it in the first place

Does he see his friends at all?

Scotsthistle · 15/01/2023 16:00

No only at school

That is difficult then but really easy to fall into. Ideally they could see one another for just one day over the weekend or face one weekend a moth where they don't see one another but the danger in pushing that suggestion is that they'll just spend more time at her house.

What am I missing? He spends 1 weekend a month indoors with his gf? Is that such a bad thing? I don't do something every single weekend!

Perhaps the OP thinks that the relationship is unhealthy, with them spending every weekend together and him not seeing his friends socially?

3 weekends in a month

Create10 · 15/01/2023 17:17

Definitely not being unreasonable. Does he go out with other people on the one weekend she spends at her house, or does he go to her house to see her then too?

ivfbabymomma1 · 15/01/2023 17:18

@wtjtejetj I read it as one weekend at hers and 3 at home? I could be totally wrong though

I think I read it wrong! I thought OP meant her son was at home 3 weekends a month and then hers for one. As in only seeing her once a month! My bad

Pinkbonbon · 15/01/2023 17:23

Its one weekend per month...even if he stayed indoors all weekend, every weekend with her....so what? He meets other people at school. Maybe the last thing he wants to do is also hang out with these ppl on his days off xD

My bigger worry would be teen pregnancy.

Scotsthistle · 15/01/2023 17:47

He spends Friday night until Sunday night with her. I think it’s too much at that age

Meant to add every Friday until Sunday night. Usually at ours and once sometimes more at her house

I'd be worried about that too Pink.

Andi2020 · 15/01/2023 20:08

@Scotsthistle at least he not out drinking and you know where he is
I'd just get them involved in family activities like games, watching a movie so they are socialising with you.
I have 3 teens oldest now 19 she went through the parrying stage 16/17 I hated those years now she hates drink, thankfully she never got drunk and always came home.

Glamrockgoddess · 17/07/2023 20:50

When is he doing his schoolwork? I'd be more bothered about that.
