Best contraception for 17yr old DD

DD has asked that we make an appointment with the GP so she can get contraception now that her and her boyfriend are having regular sex. I know that contraception is very individual and what suits one may not another and obviously this is what she will discuss with the GP but just trying to get a feel for what’s available these days.

When I was young the combination pill used to be the go to, is it still? I know you can have injections and are there also patches?

The waters are slightly muddied by the fact that DD was diagnosed with Anorexia a few years ago and she lost her period for a bit. They came back at exactly the same weight as she lost them so it is a very clear physical sign that all is well with her weight wise. I can’t deny it makes me slightly anxious to be mucking around with her monthly cycle but that is something for me to be quietly troubled with and don’t want to put that on her. Also she still has bad body dysmorphia and is worried that whatever she takes will make her put on weight although she understands that an unwanted pregnancy pretty much trumps this vague concern.

Does your GP practice have a woman's health nurse?
Some even have special time slots of under 25s, that way she could go with her boyfriend and they could take responsibility together.
