Hello,
Please help a fellow mum out here. I'm struggling to think of exciting and new ideas for the teens and just turned 20 year olds in my family, for Birthday and Christmas gifts. I've always tried to think outside the box as well as the obvious; but this year I'm finding it difficult to know what to get. Please share your ideas with me. All price ranges welcome ...

NoNamesLeft234678 = Thank you for your reply . Great ideas thank you. Tickets to concerts, shows, toiletries etc have all been bought but I love the ideas you've also given. The Build Your Own kits sound interesting. Fingers crossed I can find something for them that appeals 😊

What are their interests?

If you can afford £££ then the Remarkable 2 tablet might be good for geeks/nerds

Japanese sweets and soft drinks for stocking fillers

I’m struggling with this too, I have a 19 year old ds who has lived away from home for over a year.

Last year I bought him chopsticks, bowls for noodles, recipe books, a stove top coffee maker, coffee, socks, chocolate, coffee mugs, sweets, shave stuff and I think that’s it.

This year I’m stuck, he will get aftershave but I have no idea after that.

Litthefirealready · 19/11/2022 22:04

He wants the meta vr but it’s 400 so no way

Do they drink? At that age I liked recieving alcohol (but I am now a recovering alcoholic, so perhaps that figures....)

Cinema or restaurant vouchers?

I get my cousins who are around that age nice notebooks and makeup usually. No idea whether they like this or are just polite!

We've just bought DS(18) a Bluetooth speaker.

Many students living away from home seem to want an air fryer these days. Or another kitchen gadget, such as toastie maker with a toastie recipe book. Or a smoothie maker?

There's a great microwave toastie maker for around £20 which has gone down well with student DC of friends.

Button badges are making a comeback with gen Z at the moment so how about a badge maker? Ebadges does a 25mm one with 100 badges for £69-ish.

There are some cracking Lego sets aimed at 18+. Including a bonsai tree which I'm tempted by myself.

A bubble tea kit as they seem to be all the range at the moment.

Or if they're slightly crafty, a paint by numbers. Or diamond painting seems to be a new thing.

Thank you so much. Some really great ideas. This gift-giving lark seems to be very hard, as I seem to have run out of all ideas., But you have all helped me so thank you x

ds has just booked his first holiday with friends next year, so he will be getting lots of holiday related things such as sunscreen, aftersun, maybe a suitcase, bag for the pool, sunglasses, beachtowel, travel firstaid kit etc (if I can work out the best place to buy them at this time of year!) and spending money.

Shinyrain · 20/11/2022 21:15

Fab ideas! I want some of the things mentioned, for myself 😄 Great idea re: the holiday bits & bobs. I appreciate all the input. You are all helping me. We are a small family and we only buy for the teens/ twenty somethings, so tend to spend a bit more. Usually about £150 each but can go up to a maximum of £200. In the past when they were younger I used to buy lots of 🎁 for their money; however I now realise that I was buying quantity rather than quality. Hence why I would rather pay a bit more nowadays and get something decent that they really want. Thanks so much for the ideas 🤩
