Alcohol at parties (15yo)

My DS (15) has never had a drink. He sipped beer on holiday this summer and pretty much gagged. He doesn’t actually even drink fizzy drinks as he doesn’t like the ‘feel’.
Anyway, he’s been invited to a friend’s 16th birthday party at her house. He has been told to bring alcohol. I asked him if he wanted to drink and he was a bit vague. He asked me if I would mind so I said that I didn’t mind him having a drink but then I warned him of potential consequences (generally but also due to the fact he’s never had it before).
Should I have told him ‘no’? I was drinking at that age and I assume a lot of his peers are? I’m worried that he’ll do it to ‘fit in’ but then equally I do want him to fit in! Ah, it’s a minefield. Any opinions much appreciated!

Perfectly normal

Tell him to avoid spirits , vodka mixed with cola is lethal , especially for an inexperienced drinker
But him some beers

It really isn't normal.
Its normal for kids to have a little bit of alcohol at this age, under parental supervision and with parental consent, but a bring booze party for 15/16 year old really isn't.
My dd's friend went to one of the "cool kids" parties and ended up in hospital.

Who are these parents holding parties for 15/16 year olds and serving them alcohol?

Presumably he wants you to buy the alcohol for him? I’d say no. So would all of my friends, I think! So, not normal in my circles at all.

It is completely normal I’m afraid. I tend to let them have Smirnoff ice. It’s not very alcoholic and they can nurse a bottle for a long time
