18 year old gap year

Hello,

My 18 year old has just left 6th form following A-levels and has deferred his offer (until September 2023) to study civil engineering at Newcastle University. He has decided to take a gap year and we are sorting a working visa for him to work in the Canadian Rockies between April and September next year. He is also in the process of looking for a part time job for the first 6 months of his gap year and also we are trying to sort out some work experience in his chosen field (we were refused due to the Covid rules in 2021/22).

At the moment, he is officially unemployed. I hadn't really thought of that but is he supposed to claim anything?
