Hi, my 14 yr old son has Gynaecomastia. He has had all the tests and three consultations. He is not overweight and exercises with weights at home regularly (trying to get rid of it) and has great muscle tone, it is not pseudo Gynaecomastia and he unfortunately is in the minority of these cases in that he will not grow out of it. Laparoscopic surgery with some liposuction to blend in around the edges is the plan. He is crushingly unhappy and refusing lots of social opportunities etc and wants the op asap as he's been living with this nightmare and wearing Gynaecomastia vests every day now for nearly 4 years. He is very brave and I'm so proud of him for enduring all these tests and examinations, I'm so honoured that he was able to tell me, it was so hard for him. I'm desperate to help him.
I am asking here if anyone can recommend a surgeon who is active and experienced in doing this surgery on boys under16 because despite being a nurse myself I've been finding it extremely hard to identify anyone with both the experience in this age group and the facilities within which to operate that will do this surgery on someone under 16. The NHS have stopped funding these operations despite the research/evidence about the psychological devastation this condition wreaks and despite the evidence I have gathered, and despite them being willing to do other types of gender affirmation (ie reassignment) programs. I've been told I can "go to panel" but this will take a very long time and I can't watch him suffering anymore. I have no money and will have to get a loan so can't go to anyone who is super expensive. Any advice about surgeons gratefully received
