Drugs mystery

Searched DDs room and found Robitussin and a glucomannan and chromium supplement. I understand robitussin can be used in high doses to induce hallucinations, and the supplement seems to be for weight loss /constipation. Does anyone see anything else sinister in the combination? Are there any other things I need to look for? Luckily it doesn't look like much of either has been used but I am very worried! DD is 18 but young for her age. Going to uni in September, wondering how safe she'll be.

Does she have a history of disordered eating?

With regard to her going away, you can but hope she will be safe. Teenagers by nature do foolish things and all we can do is try to guide them towards making good decisions. But you can’t keep her locked away from the world.

I would try to have an honest conversation with her and ask if there is anything she needs, a trip to the GP or nutrition advice etc

Thanks for your reply, @BlueWhaleBay Not disordered eating as such but she's fallen into the habit of sleeping till silly o'clock and having a late lunch - then not hungry for dinner, then eats at one or two am. So, disordered to me!
You're right of course about uni. I guess I just wanted to check if there's anything specific I should look out for. I'll ask if she wants to see the gp before going.

Oh they do that. It’s so frustrating watching them self sabotage but apparently we should not “rescue” them.

I think cough mixture can be addictive but hopefully that’s not why she has it.

Bumping hopefully for the evening crowd.

Why are you searching an 18yr olds room? that's incredibly intrusive.

Fairyatthetopofthetree · 24/07/2022 22:52

@OnaBegonia Because I suspect she's engaging in dangerous mis-use of over the counter medication? There are 18 year olds and there are 18 year olds. Legally she could get married or join the army. Practically she's been in her room for two years and only engaging with one dodgy friend. She has been known to engage in self-harm - I found her kit in her room as well, but I expected that (luckily it didn't appear to have been used in a while) - and been discharged by CAMHS. If you have any suggestions as to how she might be using these drugs, and any symptoms I should be looking for, please let me know.
