Anti depressants

My teenage daughter has been going to counselling for approximately a year. Yesterday counsellor came out and said she thinks she needs to go on medication so I have booked appointment at the GP for this morning. My daughter is 17. We went to the GP at the beginning of her issues and they were no help at all. Does anyone know the likelihood of her getting antidepressants if she’s under 18? I feel I need to explore this option as I’ve tried everything else to help her. She really wants to try medication

DD was prescribed anti-depressants at 16 but we had to see a (private) consultant psychiatrist, as GPs don't prescribe to under 18s.

My daughter is 15 nearly 16 and has recently been prescribed citalopram by our GP for severe anxiety. She has been seeing a cahms counsellor for a year but they had nothing to do with the prescription. I went directly to our GP. I don't know if he prescribed because he knew she was already under cahms, but he was fine about it when I explained about her panic attacks which are pretty extreme tbf. It's only been a week and a half that she has been taking them and I have already noticed a slight difference in that she seems a bit calmer. Quite bad physical side effects the first week though. Good luck op I hope you can get them for your daughter.

If your GP still won't budge, ask your daughter's counsellor for advice and perhaps they could contact your GP themselves
