Yr 11 prom costs

OMG the cost of the prom is just growing and growing. I have some mums who say it is the most amazing day of their daughters life and have spent £500 on a dress and are shelling out for spray tans professional make up and hair up dos and another few who have made their DD's dresses or bought second hand and are doing the make up themselves and making them wear trainers and are doing the whole thing for less than £30.

My DD's dress was £200 but it needs altering which costs again - she is desperate for shoes rather than trainers but we haven't found any that fit her properly yet. Where do you draw the line or do you just go full out??

I think saying it's the best day of their daughter's lives is a bit much - if it's hyped up so much it will probably end up being an anticlimax.
I've ordered a dress for dd which was about £140 including shipping costs (not received it yet) hopefully it will all be fine but if needs altering that could end up costing around £200 all in 😮
Shoes she already has some sandals which she got on holiday, it will be a chance for her to wear them
Bag - approx £20?
Makeup - she doesn't wear any normally and wouldn't go to have it done, but if I get her a few bits - maybe £10-15
She wouldn't want a spray tan
The tickets are £35, I will probably give her about £30 for drinks
Hair - she very rarely goes to the hairdressers but I will try and get her in to have a trim and get it properly clean, even if she doesn't have a 'do', so maybe £30
I can't think of anything else, so around £300 total 😮😮the main cost being the dress.
It comes down to what you can afford and what your child wants though, if you can easily afford it you might as well go for it!
