Birthday present ideas for 16 year old boy

DS is 16 very soon. DH and I are getting him a new phone and DD knows what she wants to get him but from grandparents and aunts-uncles etc he has no idea. Says he can't think of anything he wants but I know he'd be gutted if he got nothing!

He likes hockey, gaming and food but isn't bothered by "stuff" or brand names as far as I can gather.

All the family members ask for ideas and I'm stumped! Most like to get something rather than cash.

Any suggestions?

Trying to think of what we gave DS…Air Jordans, a big Lego set, midi keyboard, clothes. Does he have air pods? Um, cookery course if there’s a suitable one locally. Gaming headphones. Vouchers. Tickets for a band he likes.

At that age, they just want want cash!😀

Cash in the bank so when new releases of games come out he can get them straight away. Ds always kept some of his February birthday money for fifa coming out in September.

If they club together, design your own hockey stick. You choose the decoration but also the carbon % and bow. DS did this 15 months ago and the stick has stood the test of time. (He plays for club u18, club men's & school.)

Sorry but cash and chocolate would be my advice. My ds is 15 and that would please him.

Other things he’s had that he liked are gaming headphones, fancy pants keyboard, AirPods, T shirts in current favourite brand, sweets and snacks, takeaway voucher, xbox/PlayStation voucher, Nike socks…. but his preferred option would be cold, hard cash.

I've given boys of that age Swiss penknives before - they have all the gadgets on them which men seem to love - little scissors, screwdriver, nail file etc. They've been well received in the past. They can be personalised as well.

He has all the gizmos (iPods, Apple Watch etc) and had a new hockey stick, shoes etc for Christmas.

I've bought him a t-shirt and a large plastic screw lid tub which I'll fill with sweets.

I think it's that he's so absorbed in the fact that GCSEs are looming that he doesn't have mental space for anything else!
