arghhhh DS1 (19) just spotted by DD2 wearing dd1's socks!!!! he has HUGE feet, hers are a normal size 5. socks were NEW from FC, pink and grey stripes. He thinks I'm being unreasonable...AIBU??? making a fuss!!! it's so bad in this house that DP has to HIDE his socks and pants -in a secret location I cannot even reveal here- does any one else have to face thisa sort of thing? I'm so mad I'm going Italian!

Oh yes we have that here, dss(19) steals dp's socks and doesn't bother washing them so there is a humoungous pile of dirty washing in his room. even worse though is that he will happily wear odd ones so that now dp has about 50 odd socks. god he is a pain in the hole grrr

Madlentileater · 06/01/2008 16:50

yes! odd socks- I have a whole basket full of them. Am now not doing DS's washing as it simply ends up in a heap on his floor- sometimes (if he tidies his room) he'll put it back in the laundry basket, clean and unworn! He was given some nice, jolly socks by his sisters in Nov, and at Christmas a pack of 5 boring black ones, so no way is he short of socks. I can hear DDs in other room now...she says she'd only worn them once!

LOL at Mad Lentil's DD.. get a locking filing cabinet and keep your socks in there!

There is a weird sock thief at my dad's nursing home I swear.. I keep buying Dad news pairs.. sewing bloody dozens of name tags in to the feckers.. and only one of each pair ever comes back from the sodding laundry!!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/01/2008 20:02

I buy everyone in our house plain black socks. No arguing and none get taken by the sock fairy.

Lilymaid · 07/01/2008 12:22

DS1 has "stolen" most of DS2's socks - he has gone back to university with them. I have had to give DS2 money today to buy a multi pack. We have a large number of odd socks - some of which are brands that we have never bought so have been "acquired" at university/rugby club/gym etc.

kittylouise · 07/01/2008 12:27

Theft of socks is a nightmare. Stepson age 20 constantly nicking all dd (age 12) socks - no matter how pink and sparkly. My socks get stolen my dp (we have same size feet) and there is NEVER a matching pair once washed.

Also thousands of pairs of black opaque tights used by dd and me (luckily the boys don't wear those!). However dd is small and I am large, but you can never tell until you put them on. Cue me walking around in too-small tights with the gusset round my knees, and dd wearing too-large tights which wrinkle in manner of Nora Batty.

grrrrr

Same here, what's worrying is that I have odd socks and there are no other females at home.
I have an 'odd sock' basket that all the odd socks go into, when it get over half full I tip them all out and try to pair as many up as I can, it does work, until the next wash when there are more of the feckers odd socks.
Both DH, DS1 and DS2 now have distinctive patterned socks and they have about 20 pairs each, (thank you previous Christmas fairies).
Mad Lentils DD I hope they don't stretch too much, and you will pbviously get your revenge someway.

tissy · 07/01/2008 12:42

get some of these; he'll never be able to find a pair!

Madlentileater · 07/01/2008 17:48

well, this is all very reassuring at least- i did have a phase of black sock buying when all LOs were smaller- but drove me mad how no two shades of black quite matched (sad I know) and I'd spend even more time trying to match them up. One thing that also worked in those days was to take my odd sock basket round to my friends house (all our kids spent a lot of time together) and combine the two- amazing how many pairs we managed to make together!
We are loving the odd socks, tissy....but still unsure how to cope with theft by alleged adult ds....he'd not be put off by non-matchingness!

We often play swap sock on the landing in the mornings! All of us have roughly the same size feet now, so its impossible. I've started buying only black for DH, only white for DD and I got the short straw and have to have patterned!

dd666 · 07/01/2008 17:59

i often wear odd pair under my boots
or dp always gets a thin pair for crimbo/birthday he doesnt wear thin socks so they go in his drawers and i wear them from there, also loving the cold weather means no pairing dd's socks as using tights to keep her legs warm under trousers

marchbirthday · 07/01/2008 20:55

Madlentileater's: DD - driving me bonkers. Stick to poking folk on facebook. ...

mumeeee · 07/01/2008 21:46

DD1 20 has ben wearing odd socks on purpose since she was about 17. She got fed up with losing socks,so one day just decided to wear odd ones. It's known as her thing now!

Madlentileater · 07/01/2008 22:14

hello! DD1 back here with an update on the sock situation- the socks are stretched beyond stretching!!! arrrrrggghhhh! now I have to stick to all the crapppy pairs that I've had for years and all DS can say is "I can never find any of my own"- so resort to wearing girls socks??? this is insane!!!

P.s sorry Marchbirthday, I don't have facebook to poke people on I'm afraid and I find reading comments about my socks much more enjoyable particularly as I didn't know anything about this until twinny told me and if you hadn;t written a comment about it I wouldn't be bothering you with another
