14 Year Old Working

My daughter turned 14 in November and has been volunteering in a Zero Waste shop for the past 5 months. She's learnt a lot about stock, till use, customer service etc and wants to work in retail but even given the record vacancies, she's finding it so difficult to find a retailer that wants to take on a 14 year old for evening and weekend work. Are there any websites she might not have tried?

Honestly the best thing she can do is trawl round your local shops, most retakes will not advertise jobs suitable for 14 year old on job sites.
Also worth posting in your local town/ business Facebook page asking if anyones looking

It might be an insurance thing sadly.

The only jobs my kids got at 14 was local shop work/local paper rounds.

She's too young. Would need a license to work more than a certain number of hours and unlikely to be covered by insurance until 16.

She could look at getting a paper round or babysitting

It’s too tough for employers to take on children before they finish year 11. Need to register with council, laws re hours are a nightmare. Speaking as an employer. Both mine did paperounds.

Thanks so much for the replies. Really good input and much appreciated.

My 14 yo cleans a local air BnB and does occasional babysitting. She will hopefully also get a pot washer job for a local caterer at weddings/parties later this year at 15

Yes, definitely forget looking online and get out and about into local shops and cafés etc. Be aware that 14yos can only work very limited hours so some employers may be reluctant to take them on until 16 or so.
