Birthday gift for my boyfriends 13 yo DD I don’t know that well

Despite her dad and I being together for nearly five years, I just don’t know her that well (a long story but we are trying!) and am struggling for ideas. I don’t have kids myself so I am even more clueless Confused

I know it’ll depend on the child, but do you have any recommendations that are fairly generic for a 13 yo girl? She seems to spend a lot of time on her tablet or laptop but I know she likes her dance classes that she goes to each week, chocolate (obviously!) and also enjoys cooking. She mentioned Lush! but I think her gran is getting her a voucher for there. That would be the sort of thing I’d go for, or maybe a hoodie or something if I knew what was “cool”! Trying to get her to actually leave the house appears to be a mammoth task, so I don’t think an “experience” or day-out type of thing would go down that well!

Shameless (and desperate!) bump! Anybody have any ideas for things that are fun/ cool with the tweens/ early teens these days?! 😅

DD is 12 and this is what she and her friends like
Florence by Mills skincare
Hoodies
Anything with Stranger Things on it
American sweets

I often look under the Christmas topic for present ideas, there are threads about almost every age group.

My DC are older but my nieces who are 13 and 14 love Urban Outfitters.

Comedycook · 15/02/2022 21:59

Hot chocolate set and mug
Fleece blanket
Nice make up bag
Lip balm set
Perfume

Moonshine86 · 15/02/2022 22:00

Snow fairy from the lush shop?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/02/2022 22:01

If she's mentioned Lush then just grab a boxed set from there. Vouchers from her Nan can also be used as well.

The rockstar soap is especially nice!

floatsomeandjetsum · 15/02/2022 22:02

Paperchase have lots of generic stuff that might be good.

Amazon voucher
H&M voucher

Sorry...I'd find this hard too. I usually plump for vouchers & they're always well received! There's nothing worse that getting a present you don't like, it makes you feel guilty and awkward.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 15/02/2022 22:05

Could you make up your own small gift basket of Lush things and then some Bank of England gift vouchers?

PARunnerGirl · 15/02/2022 22:07

I think I’ll go Lush then! And maybe have a wee look in Paperchase too. Thank you so much everyone!

Oodie? They seem popular with that age group xx

PARunnerGirl · 15/02/2022 22:11

@WhiskeyMakesMeFrisky She’s got two! 🤯🙄

Might also be worth looking at Typo - it's like a slightly edgier version of Paperchase. Fewer bright colours and a bit more mature.

PARunnerGirl · 15/02/2022 22:16

Sounds ideal @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

12 yo is obsessed with the knockoff Soda Stream she got for Christmas and her Bluetooth speaker light changing clock.

HollowTalk · 15/02/2022 22:21

I wouldn't buy her something without knowing for definite that she would like it.

I would say to her that you'd like to buy her a present and you were thinking of something like a hoodie or something for ballet. That gives her a broad idea of how much you're talking about. Ask her to come up with a couple of things that she'd like and then choose one of them.

RB68 · 15/02/2022 22:23

ASOS or Amazon vouchers go down well in our house for teen a bit older, other than that we bought a giant fleecey lined hoodie thing from Amazon for about 20 quid that went down well and despite being huge goes in the suitcase for any away time. Fleece blankets v popular she has about 6 and doesn't care always wants more!!

Decent shampoo and conditioners always welcome but a bit boring. Mine is really into books, films, cds and vinyl but that is a bit niche

Maybe a beauty box thing - just as a one off rather than a sub

If she is into dance some sort of bag or dance shoes or whatever suits what she is into

caranations · 15/02/2022 22:23

Nando's voucher.

RB68 · 15/02/2022 22:23

oh strip lights were a big hit as well - colour changing linked to phone etc

SE13Mummy · 15/02/2022 22:31

An LED galaxy/star light for her room? Fluffy socks, Lush bubble bars, Body Shop satsuma shower gel, pastel highlighters, fine liner pens, birthstone, zodiac sign or name necklace/bracelet, Bluetooth speaker beanie... these are all gifts recently received by 13-yr-old girls I know.

Sweetener12 · 16/02/2022 10:33

Gift card to sport or clothing store where she can get herself something nice for her dance classes? Also could be a book about famous dancers or someone she particularly looks up to if you happen to know about them? Might be a dance themed wall art or a picture collage with famous dancers to decorate her room with.
A nice laptop bag or phone accessories like ring light or pop socket.
Depending on what she likes to do could be music making software like Ableton or a photo editor like Photodiva or even a house model maker like Interior design 3d or something else.
Self care products (body lotions, lip balms)
Nice stationery/set of cute notebooks
