Has anyone tried family therapy/counselling? I really think it would benefit our family but no one else in the family will consider it.

So sorry you're struggling. We've not had it but not sure how it will work if your family don't want to engage?

I would love to try this with my son. But unsure where to even start looking. But as OP have said it won't be much use if your family are not willing to engage. Will they maybe agree to a taster session to see how they feel about it after the first session.

I think my 15 yr old may be persuaded but DH definitely not. I am not really sure how it works - I presume like marriage counselling for families.

Therapists will sometimes agree to some family members doing it and not all so it's worth asking about

We were offered family therapy when my DD was anorexic, through CAMHS. She refused to go but we (DH & I) were encouraged to attend nevertheless.

We found it extremely helpful, despite DD not being there. It was DH's first time in therapy and we both found the process really useful, it helped us learn to manage our relationship with DD during that difficult period.

Hi all, Nick James is a Family Therapist and is holding a free session week after next. He came to speak to the Working Parents Network at John Lewis and was very good. I think he is exploring options to support families who can't get support through the NHS due to waiting lists and for whom private therapy is too expensive. Here is the link www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/helping-parents-navigate-family-relationships-mental-health-challenges-tickets-273794134627 and is website is nickjamestherapy.com
