Can girls get regular-ish stomach pains in the months running up to their first period?

DD is 13 and has been getting stomach aches every so often since Sept. Nothing really bad and they only last a day or so. She also has school refusal anxiety issues and she doesn't always eat the best diet or drink enough water.

I've been keeping a note of the dates and they seem to be 3-4 weeks apart. Can stomach pains happen in the run up to periods starting? I'll make an appointment with the GP too.

I don’t know if that happens, but I have heard of a rare condition where the hymen forms a complete barrier to the blood coming out…
Sorry!

DD2 is almost 12 and has started her period. I would say she had random stomach pains for about 6 months preceding her period starting. It would let a few days then go away. I took her to GP and she was given cosmocol which helped, but she still had breakthrough pains regularly. They haven't been as bad since her period actually started.

que that's exactly what I've been imagining. Google now tells me there's something called Imperforate hymen.

Thanks char. I wonder if it's linked to hormones it might feel better once things get going.

Yes, I did for about a year. They felt exactly like the cramps I got when I actually started but like your DD only lasted a day or so.

Sorry, I’m glad there’s a more likely explanation.

Interesting. Dd had pains around 12th/13th each month since May but hasn't started yet

Yes mine did, for about 6-9 months before she started.

No problems at all although she still does get pains day before/first day.

Yes it does happen, I remember being like that before my periods started.
