To say our DS is lethargic and subdued in school recently.
No issues at home , he's lively and does well in his sport. So what could this be? 🤔

Have you talked to him? He may have the flu come on fast or it could be a whole host of things.
Argument with friends.
Split with GF.
Being bullied.
Or probably the most plausible one is it’s the end of a shitty year and he just can’t wait for it to be over so he can have a well deserved rest.

Seemssounfair · 17/12/2021 16:47

That is a bit of a random question........ are you expecting someone here to know, or looking for lots of random answers?

Hope he is just a bit tired and ready for the holidays, but it must be of enough concern/period of time/impact on work for the school to call.

RodJaneFreddy · 17/12/2021 16:48

Tired?
Too much gaming?
Not enough nutrients in his diet?

SirensofTitan · 17/12/2021 16:49

That is asking a bit much I agree, the crystal balls are really going to need to be fired up for this one Grin

We don't even have the most basic detail of how old he is, the answer for a 4 year old might just not be the same as for an 18 year old

sadpapercourtesan · 17/12/2021 16:50

How old is he?

My suspicions would be:

Gaming too late at night so sleep deprived

Depression, possibly in its early stages - are there friendship/bullying/family issues? Is he coping with school workload?

Weed.

greenlynx · 17/12/2021 16:51

Lack of sleep?
Hope he’s ok.

Muchmorethan · 17/12/2021 17:23

Probably boredom.

Hellocatshome · 17/12/2021 17:46

Lack of sleep
Lack of interest in the lessons
Friendship/girlfriend problems
Illness
Mental Health
Really the list is endless, ask him.

Seeline · 17/12/2021 17:51

How old is he/which year?
Does he have any health issues?

Aquamarine1029 · 17/12/2021 18:00

Lack of sleep.
Bored out of his fucking mind.

Russell19 · 17/12/2021 18:16

Covid?

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 17/12/2021 18:17

End of term burn out.

Hamjamwich · 17/12/2021 18:41

He's 15. The playstation is in the living room and goes off when we say, so it's not gaming causing it. was just asking on here as I don't have anyone to chat to about it

OP posts:
Nandocushion · 17/12/2021 18:43

Could he be on his phone late at night?

If not, my vote is also on bored.

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 17/12/2021 18:44

My dd's get up at 6. Leave for the bus at 7.30. School til 2 30. Optional lesson til 3
30. 45 mins walk home. Usually have a nap!!
Burnt out every last week of terms.

NotAnotherPushyMum · 17/12/2021 18:44

Bored, tired, friend problems? If he’s fine out of school I would be more inclined to think he’s just not enjoying school much at the moment, like lots of kids his age.

IWishIWasABaller · 17/12/2021 18:45

Could be teenage tiredness or maybe relationship trouble op . Would he sit and have a chat with you about it if you asked him

FrownedUpon · 17/12/2021 18:46

Poor sleep
Poor diet
Anxious about home issues e.g. divorce, arguing, family illness
Bullying
Struggling with school work
Physically unwell

waterrat · 17/12/2021 22:38

School is boring to some kids it was for me.

JoyOrbison · 17/12/2021 22:42

Bit D or iron deficiency?

Supermarket vitamins might be worth a try if need to budget?

justaweeone · 17/12/2021 22:49

He's just bored with school I would think
High school staff, they have had it so hard
Ask him, that's the starting point xx

CatsArePeople · 18/12/2021 11:25

He's bored at school.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 18/12/2021 11:33

Yes - I suspect the school should be asking the question of themselves. He's most likely bored to death.

Peakedtoosoon · 18/12/2021 11:47

What do school think it is?

I hate it when schools dump issues on parents, that parents can't see (and I work in school).

I'm more than happy to support the school and do most strongly, but I can't really deal with things happening at school that I can't see.

If school are concerned about something happening at school they need to support you in getting to the bottom of it, not just tell you about it.

Hamjamwich · 18/12/2021 20:57

@Peakedtoosoon exactly. I would love to be there to see what's happening sometimes
