Seems a bit stupid

Hellocatshome · 23/11/2021 19:12

Didn't he get a NUS card from Uni?

Ay2k1 · 23/11/2021 19:32

No as he needed photographic id to apply for one which he didn’t have

OP posts:
DontKeepTheFaith · 23/11/2021 19:36

He can get a citizen card. Takes a little while though to come through and if he doesn’t have a passport he would need a referee, much like the passport route, only cheaper.

Embracelife · 23/11/2021 19:38

Get a provisional driving licence

titchy · 23/11/2021 19:46

What id did he use for his bank account?

He had a child passport when he opened his bank account

Provisional driving license is probably the most cost effective and widely accepted for other stuff too

You can use birth cert and NI number if you don't have a password according to the Gov website...

You have to go down the submission of a photo for the licence if you don't have a passport. Probably not completely possible on line, but you can definitely do it.
Comefromaway · 24/11/2021 11:27

You can only apply for a driving licence online if you have a valid passport and at the moment if you apply for one on paper its taking approx 3 months

KilljoysDutch · 24/11/2021 11:52

There should be an option he can check to say he has no appropriate ID and someone from the Job Centre should then contact him to ask him to provide his birth certificate and NI number. My daughter had to do it this way.

Comefromaway · 24/11/2021 12:01

It does say that a credit or debit card can be used

You also have to verify your identity online. You’ll need some proof of identity for this, for example your:

driving licence
passport
debit or credit card

www.gov.uk/universal-credit/how-to-claim

Ay2k1 · 25/11/2021 12:19

There’s no option what so ever to use your debt card when making an account

OP posts:
Ay2k1 · 25/11/2021 12:28

You’ll also need a UK passport or a UK driving licence.

If you start here: apply-provisional-driving-licence.service.gov.uk/first_application?locale=en

When you click through there is a question about whether you have a passport. If you say no, it takes you to a different application. Have you tried doing that?

Clicking through that links to the old service which requires document verification by post. Currently due to strike action at the DVLA there is approx a 2 month wait.

You certainly can apply for UC without passport and driving licence. If you can't work out how to do it maybe contact CAB for help.

But get the claim submitted even if the verification is still outstanding to make sure it gets back dated.

As an aside it's pretty useful to have photo ID so Id strongly suggest he gets either a provisional licence, or renews his passport.

Ay2k1 · 26/11/2021 16:34

He needs photographic id
He also needs 2 forms of non photographic id and 2 forms of non photographic id
Also proof of ni which I fail to understand how he is meant to provide that

OP posts:
EduCated · 26/11/2021 18:32

They should provide a list of what is accepted as ID.

This is what the government says about proving your NI number:

Proving your National Insurance number
You can save or print a letter confirming your National Insurance number from your personal tax account.

If you do not have a personal tax account, contact HMRC to ask for a letter.

Info here:

www.gov.uk/national-insurance/your-national-insurance-number

This is clearly causing you some stress. Have you considered contacting Citizens Advice Bureau for some help?
