Waiting 2 weeks for a retainer

Parents of children who have had braces or any dentists or orthodontists on here:

My Daughter had her brace taken off last week and a retainer is being made, Due to mock exams we asked if she could wait 2 weeks for the retainer to be fitted as would be very difficult to get her there before school. We were told no she has to have the retainer fitted within the week so the teeth don't move. Fair enough - we have worked round the exams and squeezed in an appointment for Friday. 5pm tonight I get a phone call to say they have no dental nurse for the next 2 days so her appointment has been cancelled and next week the orthodontist is on holiday so we now don;t have an appointment until the 29th November. I asked if another orthodontist could fit it and was told that our contract is with our orthodontist so it is only him that can do it.

He was adamant last week that waiting over a week is detrimental and her teeth will move - and now she has to wait over 2 weeks. My DD is distraught because he actually said to her waiting 2 weeks was way to long.

I don't know what to do. The ortho practice is adamant there is nothing they can do and now suddenly they are saying waiting 2 weeks is fine.

Should I kick up more of a fuss and demand that another orthodontist fits it or wait the 2 weeks.

Have they done the moulds for the retainer?
When dd got her braces off they did the moulds and produced the clear retainers the same day. She had to wear them all day and night to start with so the teeth didn't move.

She had the moulds and photos taken last Friday ready for the retainer to be made and fitted a week after (this Friday). He was adamant she couldn't wait over a week and the appointment had to be on this day otherwise her teeth would move - now he has cancelled it and it is apparently ok to wait 2 weeks!!!
