Opinions on wattpad

Hi, first off I am so sorry I posted this on someone elses thread! I haven't used this forum before and it was a rookie mistake Confused
I am looking for opinions. My daughter (14) has the wattpad app, her dad (divorced) hates it and wants to ban her from it. I've read a lot of what she is reading and yes it's trashy anime sex stuff (so badly written it's painful) but I feel like outright banning it means she will start looking elsewhere online for stuff. I'm not bothered what she reads as I do talk to her about it all and she's knows it is just trash and not a reflection of real life. He's just 'caught' her reading some Harry Potter alt stories and is not happy. I need random stranger thoughts either way on this. A.ban totally and just hope she doesn't come up with other ways to read or watch things. Or B find a workaround so she can keep her smutty alt literature

She'll find other ways. Your ex is being ridiculous. However Wattpad fanfic quality is very poor, direct her to Ao3 instead Wink

Thank you...it is amazingly badly written!! And she agrees on that as well. I will just wander off and check out Ao3....

Don't ban her from it. There are actually a lot of good stories on wattpad... you just have to search for them! Most teenagers tend to read sex stories, which are obviously terribly written but can also be healthy in a way, as to teaching them how sex actually works. Anyway, you can't really stop her form reading wattpad stories and she should probably be allowed the freedom to read trashy, badly written anime sex stories if she wants 😂!

Oh tell him to sod off and let her enjoy it! I’ve got fond memories of Quizilla from my younger days 😂 however, do keep the discussion open with her on it in case she finds anything a bit questionable so she can talk to you about it.

Definitely recommend her to AO3, but encourage lots of open communication between you and her, because there is some really, really criminal stuff on there and I don't mean the writing quality.

My parents desperately wanted me not reading gay male porn, but there are so many sources.

Thank you so much to everyone that has replied. We do have good communication, something I've worked hard on as I felt I couldn't talk to my mum about anything. I've set her up with Ao3 now and she's very pleased :)
