Hi l have a very wilful 15 year old and l wish to move after a divorce so she can be nearer to her sisters who both live in London. We are moving to Essex. She says she won’t go. I am staying here until she completes her YeAr 11. Then we go. She will be just 16 by then. What do l do if she won’t come with me?

Can you explain a bit more your reasons for moving? You make it sound like the only/main reason for going is for your daughters benefit to near her sisters… but sounds like she doesn’t want to? Can’t you wait another couple of years til she might be leaving home for uni anyway?

Mummypopsxx · 14/10/2021 20:23

Thank you. She doesn’t want to go to uni and is only doing two GCSEs. My ex coerced me into leaving London. Now l have two beautiful grandkids, l would like to go back and see more of them. Job prospects are better too. Where we are now it’s a bit out on a limb. I hope that explains things more.

So are you moving for her or you? Does she have friends/groups/activities that she doesn’t want to leave? Agree with PP who says to wait a couple more years until she is old enough to be independent.

I am moving for me. For the first time ever. I can finally do what l want. My ex was very controlling.

Except when your a parent of under 18s you can't just do what you want. Regardless of your circumstances. I think you'll have to wait till she's finished the 16-18 stage of life whatever that may be.
Beamur · 15/10/2021 13:53

It's understandable that she would resist leaving familiarity and friends etc. What does she want to do once she has done her GCSE's?.

Mummypopsxx · 15/10/2021 19:03

She wants to go to college to study childcare but she can do that in Essex where l am moving to.

I have a feeling that there's a huge backstory to this.

Mummypopsxx · 15/10/2021 19:24

Motnight you are so right ! It’s a long story

Sorry but I also think you need to stay put until she’s finished her education.
When my 15yo dd goes off to uni, or moves out, or reaches 18, I’ll be off travelling, but until then I have to offer her stability.
