Hi, I have just found out that my 11 year old daughter has set up a YouTube channel, she has a phone that has no win card, it is my husband s old phone so she has used his account to do it I guess as you have to be over 13 to have a channel. I found out cos her and her sister (8) has friends over (6 and 8) and one of them said it. I had a look and there are 3 videos, one is just her drawing, nonly her hands and her vouce, all ok, then one of her sister dancing, fairly innocent but she's only 8 and one they filmed while friends were here, it does show my daughters faces, and the older friend briefly, the younger one just back view and you hear them all talking, it's a drawing video again. Obviously I know she needs to delete the one with her friends and I'd like it if she deleted the one of her sister also. Not sure if I should ask her to delete the account though, it's obvious no one has viewed it but herself and she's turned off comments. What do you think?

No SIM card, not no win card, stupid auto correct!

Personally I'd delete the account, there's all sorts of potential privacy and safety issues.

At the very least you should subscribe to the channel so you get notifications every time she adds something to it.

If she is interested in film making etc there is nothing wrong with a you tube account but you much take responsibility for it, safeguarding etc. and past 13 too, teenagers are more vulnerable than children in a way.

Plenty of youngsters use it for a tool, just ensure it's in her best interest

I think this would gave been a good rule had she come and asked.

She didn't. The secrecy would be what I would punish here.

DD is 10 and is well aware of my thoughts about putting things on the internet. I'd have been livid. The fact that she did it behind you back and you found out means you're missing some of the safety information. You need to lock down the electronics and access more.
