What coat does your teen wear to walk to school in winter?

My daughter is 14 and has to walk over 2 miles to school and home afterwards. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a winter coat that's water proof? What are your kids wearing? Male or female coats, she doesn't mind. Ive been looking for one that's a little longer so her legs don't get too wet. But I can't find anything. Budget is under £100.

If you have a TK Maxx anywhere near bring her there and get her to try on any that look suitable.
You can Google the make in the shop if your not familiar with it to see if it's recommended.
I got my lockdown winter coat that way and it was a lifesaver for all the walks.
Turns out the brand is a Finnish cold weather clothing company so it's very warm and can be washed in the washing machine.

I'm also interested in this as my DD has started secondary and has a fairly long walk. Thanks!

Something from Craghoppers, the outlet section if I am lucky Grin. They always have offers and if you google you will find a code.

Guaranteed waterproof with insulation.

Wetcappuccino · 30/09/2021 07:42

Regatta have a good outlet/ sale section online.

likeacandleinthewind · 30/09/2021 07:44

I've just looked, not many reductions/offers atm as the new season range is just out but there will be offers without a doubt. Obviously no good if you need to buy now.

Do they have anywhere to store coats? My secondary kids are currently in mountain warehouse cagouls because they are easy to roll up and put in bags. They don't care about fashion though. Last year dd wore a lightweight puffa style coat when it was cold (just a basic one from next). I'm going to look at primark as they are easily trashed or lost so I don't want to spend a lot. For most teens it's a win if you can persuade them to wear any coat really!

A Superdry one, it's warm and reasonably watertight. I got it from their Ebay outlet.

bowlingalleyblues · 30/09/2021 07:48

I have a craghoppers 3 in 1 coat it is waterproof and has an insulated lining that can be removed if it’s not so cold, so it can work for spring and autumn as well.

Porcupineintherough · 30/09/2021 17:14

Waterproof jacket of their choosing (our max budget was £100 too).

WeAllHaveWings · 30/09/2021 19:21

Northface with a zip in liner for colder days. Waterproof and also importantly breathable (don't want him sweaty first thing in morning and whiffy by afternoon), not that long unfortunately, but school trousers dry quickly.

lljkk · 30/09/2021 21:18

Coat?
The words "coat" and "teenager" struggle to appear in same sentence.

DS did use a heavy fleece for early morning paper rounds, I suppose.
Not school commute, though.
DD used same fleece on weekdays for her 6th form commute.

Hahaha! Coat? my dd has a lovely warm Superdry one. I think she wore it twice.

GreatPotato · 30/09/2021 21:26

None. I drive past the local secondary on my way to work no coat in sight, boys or girls.

My DC never wore a coat past year 7.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 30/09/2021 21:26

He doesn't wear one because he'd have to carry it around with him in school.

december212 · 30/09/2021 21:28

Superdry are good. I got a longer Michael Kors black hooded raincoat with warm lining for £80 in Tk Maxx though which look good for school too.

Tittyfilarious81 · 30/09/2021 21:30

My son has 1 of these in blue keeps him warm and dry

I completely agree with this! Even my 11 year old is Saying she doesn’t need a coat buying this year. No doubt I shall spend Over a couple of hundred pounds on coats for the 3dc and they will spend most of the winter hanging in the cupboard while the dc moan that it’s really cold on the walk to school. Even the torrential rain earlier in the week didn’t persuade them to take rain coats (which they do have) To school with them today.

LittleMissMe99 · 02/10/2021 12:20

Thanks all, I'll look at all the suggestions

My DD got a nice M and S storm wear one. Is lovely, pretty warm and waterproof (ish) and she candle bundle it up and stuff it in her bag. I'll try to find a link

AlexandraPeppernose · 02/10/2021 12:26

Mine all favour plain black puffed type ones

This is it. We got it last year and is no longer available but I'm sure they have something similar this year

spiderlight · 04/10/2021 14:15

Mine has some sort of weird reverse teen mutation - wears a massive waterproof Regatta parka to school in all weathers, even 30-degree heat, 'because it's comfy'. I resorted to hiding it at the peak of the heatwave last term.

WellTidy · 11/10/2021 16:01

13yo DS has worn [[https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-kids-core-parka-coat/navy/p5645743?sku=239842488&size=10-years&s_ppc=2dx92700064908347732&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwoGt6M_C8wIV2RkGAB0hyQTWEAQYBSABEgL-dPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds this style of John Lewis coat) since he was about 7yo.
