...I need something, i don't know what! DD is 17. She does as she pleases, when she pleases. Everyone is supposed to fall over themselves to make life easy for her because she has anxiety, yet her anxiety only comes to the fore when it's helpful to her. For instance, she can't go to college unless dh can drive her as the bus causes her to have anxiety, yet the bus to town to get a piercing (she has many) does not cause anxiety. She cannot eat any food we have at home as she has an eating disorder, but can eat multiple takeaways that i cannot afford. She smokes in the house despite us telling her it is not allowed, she swears at us, is unreasonably demanding and is very emotionally manipulative. The GP has tried to get her counselling for an eating disorder but the request has been rejected, we have been unable to get help from CAHMS due to her age, and i just don't know where to turn next. She is agressive and violent if things don't go her way, and has diagnosed herself as having BPD. I know something is wrong, I know she needs help, but i am at a loss as to what to do next. I feel like she is using mental health problems as an excuse for terrible behaviour, yet I also worry that we should be doing more for her mentally. Has anyone been here? What would be our best course of action please....?

I've got a DD with mental health problems too. I would advise googling 'NHS Wellbeing service (in your area)' and see what comes up (some areas have free counselling resources for young people aged 16 and up that you can self refer to). CAHMS was useless for us, the wait list was a mile long. the counselling foundation.org might also be of help to you, if you don't have an NHS wellbeing team in your area that can help. all the best x
