Will Friendship Island survive Y9?!

DD just started Y9 and is already saying she doesn't want to go to school. The school do options at end of Y8 so she has new people in her classes to get used to/new teachers etc. Plus there already seems to be some friendship issues, with friendships shifting etc. Feel sad as she said she wishes she was back at primary school when everything was easier. I guess it doesn't help that she has yet to have a full year at high school. Is Y9 a tricky year? How did you help your DC get through it?

Y9 is definitely a tricky year, they’re full of hormones, schools more serious than the year before and friendships definitely change rapidly. Sorry to hear your daughter is finding it tough at the moment, hope she feels more settled soon.

Dd1 totally upgraded her friendship group in year 9 met much more like minded girls in her sets and they have been an established group since then now year 11. Only one old primary friend remains now

I also would say Y9 is the trickiest year, in this regard. Secondary teacher friends of mine (at various schools) also agree that this is the hardest time (non academically) for students and to some extent their staff Grin

Head down. Work hard. Seek out those who she enjoys spending time with. Try hard to let the negatives wash over. Pray for July.

Thanks for replies. Hmm, as I suspected!
