Curfew for 16 year old

What times are reasonable to suggest 16 year olds are back?
Is the same in a big city as in a small town?
Week nights versus weekends?
And what do you tell them?
Do you want to know where they are or are they old enough for that to be private?
Any research on this?

Mine were governed by lifts, because we live in somewhere without good public transport, no trains and the buses stop at 6, so if they went out and would need a lift home, I would say I'll pick them up no later than E.G. 11. This worked well, if they wanted to stay out longer, they would have to stay round someone's. But then they only ever went to house parties as too young for clubs.

Nearly 30 years ago my friends home time was strictly 9.30. I had to then get a bus home so would hey back about 10.10 but it wasn't as strict. My oldest isn't yet 14 and bedtime is 9pm. Neither goes out though so home time isn't an issue.

For me I want to know where they are.

Weekends it’s 11. She doesn’t go out during the week except for her sport, and she comes straight back by 9 ish. We live in a big, safe city.

I want to know where they are (in general terms) and how they are with (again, in general terms, partly because the who is often fluid).

On school nights it would be 10pm, but in practice they tend to go out straight after school and are back much earlier and then do homework. I don't have a curfew for weekends, but expect to understand if DC is far enough away to need a lift. If they expect us to pick them up, it's a pickup of 11pm at the latest.
