That's it really. He's under 18 and has a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I'm devastated. I know they're very fashionable but that's not the point. If we'd discussed it I'd have obviously made sure he waited until he was 18. The legal age!! I'd suggested he put it somewhere it couldn't be seen with a shirt on.

As it is he won't be able to do the career he wants with a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I know MNet will jump down my throat but I'm devastated.

We're booked for consultation to get it laser removed but fuck knows how I'm going to afford it,

His girlfriend has dumped him over it and he really regrets getting it done.

I'm just posting here to moan really, can't stop crying. Stupid stupid little boy.

@BlusteryLake

"If anything being "astonished" at a tattoo to me says that you only judge people on appearance alone and are therefore a bit of a knob."

Oh give over. People use appearance to help make judgements about character, attitude and intent on a daily basis. If someone showed up for a job interview dressed in their pyjamas, would that be appropriate? How about if a judge turned up to court with a mohican and a pair of pink sparkly doc marten's?

Well yes those are examples of something being inappropriate to a situation. A wrist tattoo is not, in this day and age, inappropriate for the workplace.

Just as everyone used to wear a suit to the office, they don't now and that's fine.

purplecorkheart · 28/08/2021 19:08

I had tattoos personally and it appears you do too. However I do not project my dislike on others unlike you on your son.
Ok he made a choice that you do not agree with. Surely he can wear long sleeves, some kind of concealing makeup, bandaid etc and that is only necessary if his work place is very anti tattos or type of tattoo he got (does he work in law enforcement?). Otherwise I think you need to step back and relax.

Chickychickydodah · 28/08/2021 19:08

You can buy makeup that covers it . It’s probably cheaper to get a cover up tattoo than laser.

purplecorkheart · 28/08/2021 19:09

had should read hate

WaterIsBest · 28/08/2021 19:11

There are risks to laser surgery

You know that right?

Was it Terry's Tattoo Studio?[/quote]

Yeah, id encourage him to do this until he is 18 and old enough to have legally done it.
Yummymummy2020 · 28/08/2021 19:12

I would be amazed if this affected any job since it can be covered up quite easily I would have thought. A bit of Vichy dermablend will do the trick! I have seen full sleeves covered with it, but if it’s his wrist surely it’s not huge.

Thelittleweasel · 28/08/2021 19:13

@GreenTartan

I take it he had it abroad - if not report the tattoo studio at once to Local Authority

I very much doubt if Police or H M Customs [or the like] will take him with drugs related tattoo. Do please continue to offer support to remove. Crowd Fund perhaps [he'll know how]

Oblomov21 · 28/08/2021 19:13

Drug type tattoo, that he didn't know was a drug tatoo? Eh? Like what? The mdma symbol?

Get it covered up and filled in? Changed into something else. Tatoo removal is always poor and you can nearly always see the outline of the original tatoo.

Nottheduchess · 28/08/2021 19:13
  1. How old is he
B.What is his career choice VI. What is the drug related tattoo (please let it be a big fat spliff 👏🏽)
WaterIsBest · 28/08/2021 19:13

Dont get it removed till its completely healed and this can cause big problems

A new tattoo also takes many more laser treatments till its fully gone

urbanbuddha · 28/08/2021 19:14

It's a tattoo, not a criminal record. You're overreacting to put it mildly.

This is cheaper than laser treatment.

HeronLanyon · 28/08/2021 19:15

A lot of conventions are being lifted in. Court but many are not. Eg if I were to wear green or brown many judges would be tempted to say ‘I cannot hear you’ - code for ‘you are not properly dressed’. I know many judges who if they saw a tattoo would contact head of chambers. Sounds as though other workplaces have similar intolerance of visible tattoos. All a bit nonsensical at core. But social conventions are still hugely strong.

MrsRobbieHart · 28/08/2021 19:15

I’m curious to know what he thought he was getting tattooed that turned out to be a drug related tattoo.

ParkheadParadise · 28/08/2021 19:15

Hope he is taking proper care of it and letting it heal.

Lighthouseblue · 28/08/2021 19:16

Storm in a teacup.

ThreeWitches · 28/08/2021 19:16

@HeronLanyon

galloway I’m at the Bar. Pupillage and tenancy committees would still be astonished at a visible tattoo. Really just for lack of judgment. So too would judges in court.
Yawn.

What a backwards, narrow-minded, stuffy view.

Carboncheque · 28/08/2021 19:17

This is the best mother’s overreaction to a tattoo

You are far too reasonable OP Grin

Dear me. My tattoos aren't visible, but honestly I wouldn't want to work somewhere like this. I'd be wondering what else they were judging me on, and how little attention they were paying to how good at the job I was, you know, the thing that actually matters.
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/08/2021 19:18

Tattoos do not prevent someone doing their job. Tattoos which are not offensive in content should not affect someone's ability to get a job, or have any effect on other peoples perceptions of their ability

To do so is very very narrow minded. I dont have any tattoos, so I dont have "skin the game"

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/08/2021 19:20

A smart girl who isn’t interested in wasting her time with someone whose addicted to drugs at 17?

Where on the OPs posts does it say her DS is addicted to drugs ?

You've just decided this have you on no evidence at all ?

HeronLanyon · 28/08/2021 19:22

getoff well as we wear horsehair wigs I think the reality is our skills and adherence to all sorts of conventions are all at play. It’s not one or the other.
Madness really.

Rollingwiththehomies · 28/08/2021 19:22

One day you will all laugh about it. And I think the word devastated is over used.

BlowDryRat · 28/08/2021 19:22

I wouldn't be pleased but you know teenagers... How old is he OP and what's his chosen career?
