That's it really. He's under 18 and has a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I'm devastated. I know they're very fashionable but that's not the point. If we'd discussed it I'd have obviously made sure he waited until he was 18. The legal age!! I'd suggested he put it somewhere it couldn't be seen with a shirt on.

As it is he won't be able to do the career he wants with a fucking tattoo on his wrist.

I know MNet will jump down my throat but I'm devastated.

We're booked for consultation to get it laser removed but fuck knows how I'm going to afford it,

His girlfriend has dumped him over it and he really regrets getting it done.

I'm just posting here to moan really, can't stop crying. Stupid stupid little boy.

OP posts:

I know Disney college programme you couldn’t have lower arm tattoos - a girl had got one between interview and starting and was sent home.

girlmom21 · 28/08/2021 18:41

This thread is the gift that keeps on giving.
I'd love to see the tattoo, and understand why the girlfriend dumped him Grin

HeronLanyon · 28/08/2021 18:42

I’m in a career where a visible tattoo would mean you would be extremely unlikely to be taken on. But they are rare and sounds as though you/he are sorting it out. Silly boy.

FatJan · 28/08/2021 18:42

are you 'shaking and crying' OP?

ParkheadParadise · 28/08/2021 18:42

@TheCanyon
Was it Terry's Tattoo Studio?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/08/2021 18:43

Tbf, he could have come home with an std, a criminal record, a life changing injury or a pregnant girlfriend.

I'd be quite content that this is the extent of his wildness.

StormBaby · 28/08/2021 18:44

There’s lots of careers and company’s that van wrist tattoos, not that I agree.
I work in the head office of a large national retailer and the stores won’t employ any sales staff with wrist tattoos

girlmom21 · 28/08/2021 18:46

If you have a wrist tattoo surely you just wear a watch or long sleeves to interviews if you think it's going to go against you?

Would you not just cover it up though? They can't nor hire you if they don't see it.
GallowwayGirl88 · 28/08/2021 18:47

@HeronLanyon
Care to share your career?

Tulips15 · 28/08/2021 18:50

@ElspethFlashman

OK calm down.

And it's not a career ender unless it's on his hand. Wrists can be covered by clothes.

Yes he was stupid, but it's not the end of the world.

Agree, It really isn't that bad
Shallwegoforawalk · 28/08/2021 18:51

@saltedcaramel87 oh god that Guardian mother is just completely 🦇 💩 isn't she! Wow talk about self absorbed heading to crazy Grin

Many office roles and also military roles don’t accept people with tattoos on their wrists/hands. But that would depend on the role and probably how big it is too. A pea sized tattoo would probably get a different reaction versus one that covers the entire wrist or back of the wrist/hand. I think the police are funny about it too especially if it’s drug related…

Anyway, yanbu to be upset but it’s his body, his life etc.

HeronLanyon · 28/08/2021 18:53

galloway I’m at the Bar. Pupillage and tenancy committees would still be astonished at a visible tattoo. Really just for lack of judgment. So too would judges in court.

Rosehip10 · 28/08/2021 18:53

@GallowwayGirl88 Sorry, I disagree in that even in the "younger generation" most people have tattoos Hmm

How does a visible tattoo signify lack of judgement? What an old fashioned view to hold.

If anything being "astonished" at a tattoo to me says that you only judge people on appearance alone and are therefore a bit of a knob.

HeronLanyon · 28/08/2021 18:57

galloway even if, or especially if, a Celtic tattoo ! Grin but as a gunner I don’t have a leg to stand on today - they certainly didn’t.

annacondom · 28/08/2021 18:58

@SunnyAgain

I would be gutted and very upset too in your situation. I know they are not unusual these days, and it’s not a popular opinion but I really dislike tattoos and hope my children don’t decide to get one. I completely understand your reaction.
Me too. YANBU. But the vast majority of the population won't care, and you'll get used to it. Doesn't make him a different person - just a bit silly.
Lifeisaminestrone · 28/08/2021 18:59

You have my sympathy.

My reaction would be similar.

Everyone saying it wouldn’t impact your career has no idea. We may not have a policy in my work on ‘no tattoos’ but I can assure you if I had a tattoo on my wrist related to drugs I wouldn’t have got my role (corporate law).

HeronLanyon · 28/08/2021 18:59

getyourarse yes indeed !

WaterIsBest · 28/08/2021 19:02

His girlfriend has dumped him and your reacting like this .

Christ!

WaterIsBest · 28/08/2021 19:04

What job cant he now do?

Thefaceofboe · 28/08/2021 19:04

I think if you didn’t drip feed about it being related to drugs you would have got different reactions...

BlusteryLake · 28/08/2021 19:06

"If anything being "astonished" at a tattoo to me says that you only judge people on appearance alone and are therefore a bit of a knob."

Oh give over. People use appearance to help make judgements about character, attitude and intent on a daily basis. If someone showed up for a job interview dressed in their pyjamas, would that be appropriate? How about if a judge turned up to court with a mohican and a pair of pink sparkly doc marten's?
