Does a 14yr old need a work permit to work after school?

I've looked up the hours he can work since he's been delivering leaflets for a couple of hours a week for a local shop, but they now want him to work in the shop after school for a couple of hours and on the website I found it says he needs a work permit. I've looked on my local government website, but can't find anything about needing a work permit. Any ideas?

Are you in the UK. I don't think its an actual permit. Only special things like acting require a licence from the council. What was the website you found?

this is where I found the info Yes, in UK.

No, any child who is employed must have a permit/licence: newspaper rounds, Saturday jobs, etc. All applicable.

He should be able to pick up a form from his school. Find a Head of Year or Head of House or similar.

Thanks for that info. I'll tell him to speak to his Head of Year on Monday.

For our County:
more detailed info on child employment here

work permit application form

Stick "work permit education" into the search on your local council website, and it should come up with some information for you.

When my Ds got his paper round they supplied him with the form.
(Gives all the info on hours/holidays too)

I can't wait for him to get his first pay packet. I don't want to hear "Mum I want/can I have a tenner for/I need a fiver for"
